So the Japanese games industry is dying, yet Nintendo created 9/10 of the best selling games this generation?

Surely this shows how far behind compared to Japan the West is, not the dire state of the Japanese game industry

Hmm...

I know what i blame, although I'm not gonna say it, could cause arguements.

They totally killed the humor in the way the political discussion came up:

Itagaki:
Listen, we’re talking about something really important – politics – so we have to make this really clear. Maybe you should ask a question like: “So, are you interested in becoming a political candidate?”

Are you?
No, ask it.

Are you interested in becoming a political candidate?
Yes. There have been some offers for me to become a political candidate in Japan, and we do need a strong leader.

seriously lol

I don't think I would mind if Japanese games industry would die. Yeah, I know.. more competition means better games but still.

are you an FPS lover or a PC gamer

So he leaves Team Ninja and now he wants to be a politician? This just keeps getting better and better.

oooh....don't worry about it and share ur mind to all and free it of tension...........hehe

I am reading this as Itagaki saying that the Japanese gaming market as opposed to the Americas market and EMEAA is losing influence because of demographics.  Japan having the 2nd highest life expectancy in the world, a quarter of their population retired or nearing retirement age, and a low birth rate (1.2 children/Japanese woman), then yes the Japanese gaming market in the future will be smaller and not a smart investment for Japanese gaming companies to focus on and develop for as opposed to other markets.

This is why Sony is so focused on emerging 2nd world markets. There will always be a Japanese market, but not to the extent it was in previous generations.

As for comments regarding Nintendo having 9 of the 10 best selling games in this generation, Nintendo did that by catering specifically to the Americas market. Canadian, American, Mexican and other Americas market gamers were primarily responsible for Wii Fit and Wii Sports selling over 20 million.
