Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Let's Talk About Mass Effect 2 (General Thread)

There isn't really a centralized Mass Effect 2 thread (I missed the boat on that one) but I've been playingn the damn game for nearly a month straight so Hell, I figure it still merits some discussion.

Quick guidelines:

1. This topic is about Mass Effect 2, but it's also okay to talk about the first game and speculate about the third.

2. MARK YOUR SPOILERS. There will be spoilers, but the least you can do is mark them.

3. If you come into this topic just to shit on the game, I hate you.

It just won't be worth it, you guys.

That's basically all the guidelines you get; this is all the OP you get. This isnt' an Official Thread, it's just a discussion thread, or else I'd try to make it prettier.

So let's get some of the preliminary stuff out of the way first:

I like Mass Effect 2 a lot. It's probably the best game I've played this year (even eclipsing Super Mario Galaxy 2, which would be impossible in any other year this gen so far). Hell, it's probably the best WRPG I've played in the past ~5 years, excepting maybe Fallout 2. Even my wife is getting into it. It's the first game I've ever gotten all Achievements in. When I end up getting a gaming PC, I may buy it a second time. It's the first game I've ever bought DLC for. It is super duper. It is a super duper game.

Just great.

I think one of te things I like most abotu it is how it differentiates so much between classes and class utility, and how each weapon in your inventory is useful in different situations. I completed my first Insanity runthrough a few days ago, which was also my first Sentinel run-through - that was a lot of fun! I will need to play through Insanity as all the other classes now, not just for the sake of being able to say I did it but also because Insanity mode in itself is a lot of fun.

Actually that's one of the things I appreciate best about this game: Insanity is tough, but it's not frustrating. I've played Insanity in the first game, too, and it's not tough but it is frustrating. When enemies take forever to kill with the best weapons but pose no greater threat the game is just tedious. ME2's Insanity avoids that pitfall. I appreciate that. I think I might start playing the game on nothihng but Insanity.

ME2 is definitely my favorite game this year so far (although it will go to second once Halo Reach is released) and my second favorite game of this gen right after Halo 3.

I seriously cannot wait for ME3 to come out.

I do regret how half-assed Zaaed was, but other than that it was a great game.  I especially liked how money was actually a rare and valuable commodity.  Sure, it had its flaws, but there's a reason I've played it through so many times.

It was incredible.

2nd best WRPG and my 5th favourite game overall this generation.

Love how Bioware is doing the conversations. Every character is special in its own way and behaves completely different depending on how you treat them.

SPOILER:

I was terribly mad when Kelly died during my playthrough >:( It was my fault after all :'(

SPOILER END

Easily my game of the year so far and could quite possibly remain so. Played through 5 times now :P

Man, I love this game.  I'm going to start my hard difficulty level playthrough, soon.  The amazing thing was that there was stuff that happend during my playthrough that I thought HAD TO HAPPEN.  Then, months later, I find out that certain things didn't have to happen that way and certain people didn't have to die.  Amazing how Bioware pulled that off.

I suspect ME3 will kick off with a large portion of your crew going their seperate ways after the suicide mission.  I'm sure Grunt will be in the party (and if he managed to die, I'd bet Wrex will come back), as well as Miranda, Joker, and Jacob.  The people who may have died will likely be replaced by newly hired guys.  They'll probably get right down to business, too as the Reapers start doing some serious damage to life in the galaxy as we know it.

I don't think anybody is going to survive ME3, either.

I know!  I didn't even realize that you could Spoilers: (----------get Morinth in your party instead of Samara) until after I beat the game :O

Incredible game--I love it.  Anyone else beat it without losing anyone?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

After playing around with him a bit more, I don't think Zaeed is as half-assed as I had originally assumed. He has tons of unique dialogue, just as much as everyone else (and even more in some missions - take him on Garrus's recruitment mission, for instance).

The only thing you can say is that he doesn't have traditional conversation trees, but he describes every item in his cabin multiple times - particularly hihs rifle. More, he always has something to say after a mission is over. I think that taken on the whole he has as much dialogue as anyonne else.

He's pretty decent in combat, too. There were quite a few missions (like anything with geth) where I found him indispensable on Insanity thanks to Squad Disruptor Ammo.

If you don't count Kelly then I did ^^

without looking at a guide of course (although I read somewhere before I started playing ME2, that some could die in the mission if you haven't earned their loyalty)

@d21lewis

I know what you mean. I just read that it's possible to finish the game without getting Kelly killed. Read the spoiler in my previous post for my emotional reaction...
