How is this looking like a "sleeper hit?" Its a Disney game being sold to the Wii audience, its being released during the holidays, it'll likely be marketed since Disney is publishing, and its being hyped to death by Wii fans. If anything sales expectations are high.

By the way, if this has bad reviews it'll stay on the Wii. I rarely see poorly reviewed games do well on HD consoles.

Well it might. But does the wii audencie really care about mickey especially since this is radically diffrent form the normal image of mickey.

If you advertise it, they will come.

Seriously though, if Disney Interactive Studios advertises in a way that focuses on an grand adventure with you controlling the Mickey Mouse in a land full of Disney characters, I think it'll be a big winner this holiday season. This is the sort of game that gets the attention of traditional Nintendo fans and the expanded audience who love Disney/Mickey outside of video games.

Like I said before, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

yes because any games that has addvertisent sell well.(NOT!)

You can make excuses for some games. I mean was anybody really surprised Sin & Punishment 2 bombed?

But Epic Mickey seems like a perfect match for the Wii audience. So if it bombs on the Wii with advertising, that would be pretty surprising.

So my son, what lifetime sales do you predict for Epic Mickey?

Who knows? I would have never guessed such high numbers for Just Dance and other stupid games on the Wii.

If Epic Mickey crosses a million I would consider that a success. And that shouldn't be a problem.

1 million ain't that much. It will need a lot more than that to even break even.

What does that really mean?

They said Gears of War only had about 20 - 30 people working on it at a time. Yet the credits go on forever.

Perhaps Epic Mickey has 275 involved with the game somehow. That doesn't mean 275 have been working on the game nonstop. I highly doubt it has a CoD or Assassin's Creed budget either.

Gears of War had a $10 million budget. They were able to keep cost down because they outsourced some of the work and ofcourse they used the Unreal engine. Epic Mickey is using the Gamebryo engine which saves the developers a lot of time and work.

Sadly Mickey will flop because the hype is near zero. Everybody's hating on the game. I don't understand why because I think it looks great.

The platforming looks slow and boring.  The visual style doesn't look like the really awesome concept art.  I was very excited about this game until we began to see it.  Then I lost more excitement when we started to see gameplay.  While the pedigree behind the game might be exciting for most I've never played one of Warren Spector's games so I can't still just be excited and trust.  Maybe they just don't want to give away too much but what we have seen I can only call underwhelming.

I don't think the game will flop though. People love Disney and Mickey.  Disney will make sure that people see the game via advertising(they have their own TV channel to plug it) this holiday season.  Hell if the word of mouth is good enough I may even have to give it a try.  A lot of us have simply felt let down in our hopes for the game. Putting Epic in the title and talking about Pixar working on it and this being a relaunch of Mickey just created some expectations that are sky high.

meh, when will we start seeing developers go "well, now that we have started making actual effort, we have discovered _______ can be done on Wii".

I  hate how all of these developers act like they are making a huge effort to port Wii games to HD platforms, when its actually the opposite. How about making real effort to port the countless "HD exclusives" to the Wii console? So PS360 owners really want that mickey mouse game or NBA jam, why wouldn't Wii owners want Assassin's Creed or Arkham Asylum? To those who say "Wii couldn't handle it", that whole argument is getting incredibly old...

Where can I see those gameplay pics?

The prime issue is that Disney is using this as a re-launch of Mickey himself, to try and break away from the sugar-coated version of him that we've all known since childhood, and get back the bugs bunny-esque character that he once was. The point being is that this game is the launching point for that whole campaign, so of course they're going to promote it and promote it well.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

nothing against the Wii, i like the system, i have access to one myself..but the problem is the games designed for the Wii would not be designed the same way for the xbox360 and the PS3 due to the multi-core CPU design in the HD system's, now not to say they could not make a game to work on all three, no doubt. but the truth of the matter the Wii's spec's are no way near the other two in CPU power. But like i stated, that's not a problem really, unless the Game is designed for other type's of processing.

this is the spec's of the Wii:

Additional specs Hardware

  • CPU speed:
    729 MHz
  • CPU cores:
    1
  • GPU speed:
    243 MHz

as you can see the processor is a single core @ 729 Mhz, nothing wrong with that, but both the xbox360 and the PS3 have multiple CPU cores in the GHz as a matter of fact each of those core's run at 3.2 GHz quite a bit more speed than a single 800 Mhz processor.

now 2 of the big problem's is two fold, the processor speed and the Bus speed of the Wii which is not as fast as the PS3 or the xbox360. but it does not have to be, so it's not a problem really , unless your designing a game to run on the Wii Spec's as the base spec's for your Game.

you notice the GPU is also not as fast, but the big problem is also it capabilities in resolution, which is not a problem if you base the game on the Wii spec's to start.

the big problem is:

build a game with the Wii sec's from the start, but underuse the XBOX360 and PS3's strong point's which is great for Wii user's but may not be so for the HD system user's. But if a game is good it should not matter what the final resolution is.

but that's upto the people making the game and the consumer on what they like and what they do not like.
