Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Ex-Microsoft Studio Boss: 'Natal Will Fail'

Albion said:

See the problem is. Nintendo have more vision and ballz in there left tit then the hole rest of the industry all ganged up togueter.

Thats why they fail.

Motion games are yesterday already.

So, the future consists of no new controllers being introduced, or the adding of even MORE buttons to the current controllers to make them do more? As in...

So, explain to me how a console will do real good RTS games with the current control configuration.  I am curious to see how you either argue that the current controllers on consoles are AWESOME for RTS, or that consoles don't need RTS, because they are boring or something...

Name a successful add-on? (Wii Fit)

Now name another one? ...

Now name one that cost more than $100? ...

That is the problem that Microsoft is facing.

I agree with the butthurt comments. This guy is just bitter and jealous lol.

why would studios create games for MOVE only?

They won't, they will port Wii games to Move

"If it doesn't work on Wii, don't try it on Move"

Quite sure it fell into deaf ears.

Based on this thread, I can't tell if you're for or against motion controls on the PS3 and 360, but I was just quoting a recent Sony spokesperson who said that, despite you saying that developers will continually make Wii --> Move ports

@people saying he's "butthurt"

Read the damned post in the OP and Matt247s post. He was being constructive. How many console peripherals have been successful in the past? Not many? You want to know why? Because it segments the audience, just like he said. It *just so happens* that he's an ex-M$ studio guy. But it's not like he's going around saying Move is gonna be revolutionary. The only reason he's talking about Natal is BECAUSE he worked for Microsoft, and he was just giving his two cents on the topic

That makes no sense. the only reason why shovelware exists is because userbase gets really large and extra dollars can be made on those quick and drity cash in games. There is no logic for anyone to release shovelware on Natal until it sells 20 million...

Since Natal will have a limited userbase for a while, the games coming out really need to be good.

If so, only MS will do games Natal exclusive. In this case, they will have to be damn good for Natal to have any success.

I wonder if he feels similarly about Move.

I think he is wrong because most games will only slightly use these perepherals and they will work with or without them

And this is his point for why Natal will fail. If M$ isn't going to fully support it who is? Same for Move..I'd imagine. I'd like to hear what he thinks about that peripheral, since they are both in a similar position.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

His argument is the one made about accessories sold for a console, rather than bundled.  In this case, such accessories historically don't do well.  In regards to Move, it is similar.  It is a new accessory that would need to have a sufficiently large base of software to count.

That would be the case if Natal came out with the 360. You expect Natal to sell 40 millions day one?

Well, he actually has a point. The strength of the Move is that it works pretty much like the Wiimote. So when they develop something for the Wii, they can port it easily to the PS3.

Why would they spend more money porting it with some difficulties to Natal or create a game only for Natal? I could work but Natal would need a big install base.

As far as saying, "Well developers now can develop for the PS3 along with the Wii"... well, exactly what third-party software does gangbusters for the Wii?  Remember how people say the Wii has weak third-party support?  Don't expect Nintendo to develop for Move.

Not to mention "If it doesn't work for the Wii, don't try it on Move". Even if developers DID want to work on the PS3 and Wii at the same time, more often than not, it'll be something Sony wouldn't want.

I know that ;) but tbh that guys must be naive to think no one will do that.

Even funnier, look at Sony's lineup for move so far : A rail shooter, a Wii sport resort wannabe, a punch out wannabe.

FYI, I also think Move and Natal will fail.

Rail shooter: Umbrella Chronicles. Wii Sports wannabe: Uhhh...Wii Sports. Punch Out wannabe: Uhhh..Punch Out*

*these all 'worked' for the Wii, so there's no contradiction in his statement
