Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Multiplatform engines didn't do the Xbox 360 justice.

360 graphics are not bad by any means, there not as good as the PS3 exclusives, but that is ok, I believe Unreal engine was created for 360 by Epic games, created to use 360 strong points, so I dont see what point this thread is trying to make. I am a fanboy of games, Alan Wake looks good, but not a top notch game in my opinion, but I will see when it actually comes out, the same was said about splinter cell conviction, about graphics, it came out, it looks good, but ounce again not a top notce game as far as graphics, I like the gameplay though and I am having a lot of fun with SC, 360 is just not a power house graphic machine, 360 is a great console it has many pros, like XBL, it has many great games with great gameplay, just because it does not spit out the top graphics of this gen, is not a big deal to me, the graphics are still good. I hate when all this hype starts about a game being the best graphics this gen or this year, before the dam game is even out, just because footage is released does not mean much, Alan Wake looked better with all the footage, not seeing gameplay, it does not look as good as other doctored stuff released. so I will wait until the game comes out.

UE3 was confirmed by Epic that it's not optimzed for 360. It doesnt even use the EDRam chip. Well it may if they change the code for Gears 3. Thats why not one single UE3 game this gen on 360 has FS Anti aliasing.

Just to be pedantic I pointed this out ages ago - way before this or Selnor's threads. As I stated at the time (in one of the usual graphics meltdown comparison threads, one of the downsides of MS strategy was that, by relying so much on third party developed titles the platform was seeing far less titles with custom engines than the PS3.

This year does look to see that situation ease, however unless MS push for more titles like Alan Wake it seems inevitable that the PS3 will continue to see more custom engines than the 360 which, assuming good developers, should mean a higher percentage of technically excellent titles.

Alan Wake looks to match what I've seen in GoW so far, and has a good chance of being the best looking 360 title.

Reach does look good, too, but so far from what I've seen the need to support splitscreen coop amongst other things will likely keep it from quite matching the Uncharted, God of War's and Alan Wakes at the top of the console graphics tree.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Just watched that video, I am still neutral on this matter as this game could swing either way, the video was OK but not the best of story introductions I have seen, it was alright. Although that bit of having to shoot someone in the face with 4 magnum bullets to kill them was a bit lame. The flare gun looks like a pretty awesome, "light" based rocket launcher. Will make up my mind about this game once the reviews and more videos start rolling in.

I agree with the premise of the article but im still unsure about AW being graphics king. Ill wait till it releases.

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

The article is well written and accurate, such a shame his opinion on how good Alan Wake is will be the only thing people cannot get past. At the end of the day its just his opinion so no point just ripping on the article for that point.

The people saying the article writer is a xbox fanboy should be banned from this site, you're the worst kind of poster on here. Anything that doesn't praise the PS3 to hilt gets branded a biased site on here and its getting very old and its about time the mod team clamped down on the bullshit.

So if he is a fanboy, people shouldn't be allowed to talk about it???  That's the silliest comment I've seen here in a while.  Anyone can go read his other articles and decide for themselves.  I have no interest in doing this as I have better things to do with my time.  But if others go read the articles and want to post there impressions here, they should be free to do so.

alan wake wont be grafix king wen it releases,

you can view a video on live, althought its streamed it gives you an idea on how it will look on ur telly. looks excellent but not what its hyped to be.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Regarding the OP: duh?

No system is served well by an engine that seeks to be all things to all platforms. It's only when you drill down to the metal, exploiting all of the quirks, bugs and hidden strengths of a particular machine that you can really see what it does--this would be why games at the end of a machine's life invariably look a lot better than those from its first year on the market, i.e. duh. Again.

I think people just need to stop writing stupid articles like these in general, how a game looks is in the eyes of the beholder. Saying a game is artistically best looking is purely a personal opinion, saying a game is technically "shaping" up to be the best is also half assed since the engine has been there this whole time, is decided on how much time and polish is given, all without a final product. The hype simply has to stop, all it does is kill the WOW factor upon release for 99% of the games.
