Forums - Gaming Discussion - Persona 5 Platform speculation.

Ps360 most probably.

Combined theres a massive market there & with FFXIII's huge sales theres a big JRPG fan base on those systems.

But that is if they care about western sales

If they don't care about western sales it'll be on PSP

@OP, you do bring up an interesting point, I never thought it might go to PSP, although frankly, I hope it stays on PS3 (probably 360 as well). Rpgs have been selling pretty well on PS3 esp in Japan so there is still a chance.

It will be a PS3/360 game.

1. Atlus' biggest franchise
2. Hiring devs for the PS3 and 360
3. A fine userbase for JRPG's exisits on those consoles

By the way, the "SMT for PS3" is speculated to be Persona 4, but it was cancelled for PS3 and developed for PS2 instead. And Strange Journey is the fourth instalment in the main series, so don't expect new Megami Tensei for a while.

either PS3 or PSP....or PS2. I think all Persona games came out on PlayStation systems.

And ???

anyways this game is most likely coming out on ps3, perhaps also on 360

Its time for this series to move into next gen consoles

I personally see P5 going to a portable myself. Those are the cheapest to develop for with the largest bases of RPG fans. The DS is seeing the new SMT games, and the PSP is getting the Persona remakes, so I'd lean a bit more toward the PSP. For those thinking that the PSP means low sales outside Japan, remember that most of Atlus' games aren't huge sellers. And, they sell to their dedicated fanbase. A majority of the people who bought P1 in the US will probably by P3P, and would buy P5 PSP. Conversely, a good chunk of those who bought Strange Journey would buy a P5 DS.

So what about the PS3? I don't think so. The SMT project announced for the PS3 at launch? It's probably cancelled. There was speculation that it was Persona 4, which is possible. However, in either case, remember that in Japan, Persona is NOT marketed as a SMT game. So announcing an SMT game does not mean a Persona game to Japan.

But Atlus was hiring PS3/360 people! That doesn't mean that they're going to jump into the frey with their biggest series right off the bat! I'd guess that they'd be starting with some PSN/XBL games to get used to the architecture. And games like 3D-Dot Game Heroes or Demons' Souls? Those were solely localized by Atlus USA; recall that it is Atlus Japan who makes the Persona series.

I still see other problems, too. Atlus is first and foremost, a Japanese company. I still think that the PS3 installbase there is too low with too high of a development cost to make the game exclusive. And the 360 is basically dead in Japan. Atlus would not be able to recoup their costs of an HD Persona on the installbase in Japan. As for the Wii, while it is cheaper with a larger install base, and they have experience in developing on it, so it's has a possibility. But, Atlus Japan is not doing too well financially. They want more of a sure thing. And I really think that the portables are Atlus' best shot.

Hopefully PS3.
Actually I'd say it's most likely to go PS3 or PS3/xbox360, the port for overseas.

There is a good market for a JRPG on those anyway, and a lot less competition than on the PSP. A PSP release will also amount to close to nothing in the west... on the HD platforms there's even some chance for decent sales in Europe.

In all honesty though I hope they'll make it more of a beautiful game rather than overly detailed and consequently with a high budget.

People, Persona 4 sales were splitted equally between west and Japan. PSP is a dead console in western market duo to piracy, making this game for PSP is just telling good bye for a good amount of sales.

And PS3/360 games don't need to have high budget, they only get expensive if they push the hardware and developing time. Something that looks better than p4 at gameplay is already enough, and focusing in HD animations.

PS3/360 has proved to be able to sell JRPG WW, they have FF and dozens of medium/small sized franchises that are selling pretty well. Atlus had a good experience with ps3 with Demon's Souls that became one of their best-selling titles.

What I see is: The game gets a PS3/360 release, and some 2 years later get a PSP(or PSP2) re-release.
