The way I see it, it will be impossible for the Wii to outsell the PS2 in WW sales.

which means the PS2 will remain the best selling console of all time.

 

Thoughts?

Why would the most successful home console be discontinued?....Its tracking above the ps2 at this point and shows no signs of stopping.

Im think the last shipment figure of the ps2 was 150 million , its not selling nearly 10 million a year hell its a miracle if its selling 2 million

I hope you mean for each year.

 

 

Same point......just because the next gen starts doesnt mean the wii will be discontinued.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

You guys obviously didn't read the title of thread carefully. I said the "best selling console." Not the best selling handheld. DS without a doubt will be the best selling handheld of all time but not the best selling console of all time because its not "A CONSOLE"! Do you understand?
Btw,Viper1, I know exactly what I'm talking about. My predictions on this site happen to be very accurate. For example, last year, I made a bet with SaviorX that the Wii would not hit 70 million copies by the end of 2009 and guess what? I was right. If you don't believe me, search SaviorX's name up on this site and ask him about it. I'm sure he remembers.

Any particular reason? There was a lot of buzz at the time when the PS2 beat the Gameboy as the best selling console so I think it's fair to put the DS and the PS2 in the same race.

the PS2 hasn't sold 150 million BTW, this has been said a million times but due to the way they changed the way they record shipments from manufactured to shipped the numbers got screwed up. Vgchartz has PS2 at 130 million sold through.

Generations last six years, so the PS2 stopped selling in 2006, right? Completely taken off the market?



Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Well, for just about 4 millions...

 

Well, if you count the amount of Wii selling each week, so about 300 000 x 52 weeks = Wii will easily sell 15 millions, which doesn't include the big boost it'll probably see in the holidays if Galaxy 2 ever release somewhere Q4...

 

so, Wii will end up near 85-90 millions by the end of the year, and probably the next console will release in 2011 so we might see 110 millions... the PS2 fell a lot this year, 42% under the usual sales.

Why would Sony want to drag the PS2 into another generation? It makes no sense. I think 2011 is a perfect time to discontinue the PS2 even if its selling pretty good. I think its time people move on to the PS3. Exactly how do you expect people to move on to the PS3 when the PS2 is still out. They need to discontinue the console soon because they can't walk in the 8th geneartion with their new console, the Ps3 and still dragging the PS2 along with them. It makes a lot of sense.

That holds no resanance with your current predictions which fall flat on their face against data, logic, reason, historical context, etc...

Quite literally everything about your prediction runs against the grains....all of it.    I'm not trying to offend you and aprt of me even feels bad for you because of the attacks you're going to endure.   But you've put yourself out there with data projections that just have no valid grounds to support them.

 

I see that your a Sony fan and every Sony fans wants their console to remain sales king.  And that's understandable.  But check the real data and apply unbiased logic and reason and you'll see that you've made some predictions that you won't be proud of.

That's not what I'm saying. You're missing the point. The gamecube came out in 2001 and was discontinued in 2006. The xbox came out in 2001, discontinued in 2006. The PS2 kep going because of its strong weekly sales and Sony wanted to see the console have a 10 year lifespan. Now that  it will reach its 10th year in japan  by march and in us by october, Sony should discontinue the console in early 2011. That's what i'm trying to say.
