Forums - Nintendo - With Wii's birthday coming up a look at its first year

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought.

Didn't the tortoise have jet packs though?

Slow and steady only wins the race when the fast and explosive decides to take a break and becomes arrogant and cocky and quits the race early.

I don't get the reference.

@Soriku: Who cares?

 The Tortoise and the Hare is the reference.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Yeah, that was obvious.

The way he phrased it made me think he was hinting towards something else.

^You never get the references Montana :P

Slow and Steady always wins the race, not lackluster sales, the massive drop-offs of one of your biggest titles..., then slow and steady starts beating you in the country of your origin(at leas this week)... No reason to name names :)

@DMeisterJ

Yeah the PS2 did have Lackluster sales that first year and it was even uncontested, I can see how you might have believed it would lose, but it didn't

Heck the PS2 even lost to GCN some weeks, no wonder you thought it would fail

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

 No, I think you are confusing the jet pack thing with Wile E. Coyote...yeahh, the Coyote always chasing that Roadrunner, yet never catching it...

@DMeisterJ

Yeah seriously, how could you think the PS2 would lose just based on its first year? Yeah sure, it did have lackluster sales, poor supply of great titles and wasn't even contested on its first year, but it did finally succeeded and ended up having a great steady life....man, I thought for a second you were a Sony supporter, but I guess first impressions isn't everything. Sorry for misjudging you there.

Its been a pretty amazing first 12 months.

I can't recall any mass-produced, consumer electronics device EVER selling out (instantly?) even 12 months after it was originally released.

Next year is going to get real scary. Production will start to edge 2m/m plus - and we should finally see some form of price cut ($199US?), or some even more compelling bundles.

To think in the next 3 months I will be playing Galaxy, Mario Kart, Brawl, RE:UC, Zak & Wiki, WiiFit & more.

...

The DS did a great job of shaking up the industry - and now its the turn of the Wii to really revolutionize things.

Bring on the next 12 months :)
