Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nobuo Uematsu vs. Yasunori Mitsuda

Just for the sake of clarifying, all of you who mention Chrono Trigger's OST as one of Mitsuda's most memorable do indeed realise that Uematsu co-composed the soundtrack, right? -_-

Also, my vote goes to Uematsu.  Final Fantasy VI and VIII are the most memorable OSTs to me.

That's true, but he only did like three songs and they were far from the best on the OST.

I agree. The OST would've been "better" if it was only composed by Mitsuda. Uematsu's tracks seem out of place when you listen to the Soundtrack.

It's been said on record that the vast majority of Chrono Trigger's OST was Yasunori Mitsuda's work. Uematsu worked on 10 of the tracks, Matsueda on 1 (a boss battle song), and Mitsuda on the rest. So, in an album with 64 songs, well, you can do the math.

Uematsu vs Mitsuda. Uematsu has not only composed better game music more frequently, but also arranged alot more of the composition to. Mitsuda is only recorded for arranging 2 games. It's almost sick to snub Uematsu like many are doing. Uematsu also is working alone on FF14.

You can tell which songs are Mitsuda's considering that he tried to connect most of the songs to Chrono Trigger's theme.

It's not a list war. It's the facts. If you want to say who is better, you need to know what they have worked on. Especially what they have worked on completely on their own. Mitsuda has alot fewer games which is solely him. Uematsu has alot with no help. And just look at the games both have worked on. I'll let you find out which games won music awards in Japan. Let me tell you it's more than 70-30 in Uematsus favour. It's so obvious why Uematsu is not getting votes on this site.

No, it is a list war. That's exactly what it is. Awards do not mean shit in the context of these discussions!

Please tell me you aren't trying to turn this discussion into some petty 360 vs PS3 thing

Come on man. your joking right?

I know nothing about who played for LA Lakers yet I'll just say Kobe was the best LA ever had. Because thats all I know. See?

You HAVE to know credentials when picking a winner. Or what the hell is the point. No I dont mean 360 vs PS3 ( Uematsu is working on FF14 alone ) I mean the super sad people who want FF13 to be so great they will say Mitsuda no matter what. Even though he has had alot of composers help in all but 6 or 7 of his games. 2 of those games from Uematsu. Look at it this way Uematsu has been Freelance since 2004. Yet SquareEnix still contract him work alone, they trust an entire game to him. That is an exceptional composer. Mitsuda doesnt have half the resume Uematsu has. And none of his best stuff is ALONE!

LOL where the fuck is this coming from? I'd love to hear why it's "so obvious".

I also don't understand where the "more is better" logic is coming from. Does this mean that Assassin's Creed II is better than Uncharted 2 because it sold more?

LMFAO again, you think people are voting Mitsuda because of FFXIII? God you're the biggest fanboy in the world, Mitsuda isn't even WORKING on FFXIII, what does FFXIII have to do with anything?
