I think he just means that you need to have experienced the story from the first one, not necessarily that you need your save data.

That's usually true of most sequels in a trilogy. Don't understand why he would point it out now though.

I doubt mass effect will move much hardware, being a sequel to a plot heavy game snuffs out any chance. Id say MAG has an as good if not better chance of moving hardware.

Selling just as a Blu-Ray player days are probably near the end. You can get a Blu-Ray player now (stand alone) for about half what you pay for a PS3. So, it is likely for both, or just a game player now.
