What does this say? I think BC wasnt really an issue for people.
I guess that's good. It's really spotty. I did it in my area, and six out of the ten stores are sold out and four have 1-3.
Or that they don't know it doesn't have it.
Or that Gamestop severely underestimated demand: ordered 1, customers demand 2 is technically sold out but still not amazing.
Or people don't care about BC now, but will miss it soon.
Or this is a wave of people who just want a new model which will dry up quickly.

It says, just like with Amazon rankings, you're making too big of a deal out of little things and when the sales come out you will be disappointed with the PS3's sales (as I'm sure you have every other month it's been out). They'll be lucky to hit over 200k for October NPD sales and they'll also be able to hide the inevitable "suprising" lack of lasting effect the 40gb will have under the traditional large November-December holiday sales.
Sony Press Release: Sales were SPURRED by the lower priced 40gb Unit. Never mind the fact it's November and the system would have sold 400-500k no matter what this month.

Actually I sold my PS2 so when I get a PS3 I'll be able to play all the games without clogging up too much space.
So BC is a big deal for me and I want a PS3 but now I have to buy a PS2 AGAIN.

Why ?Just buy the 80Gb PS3 ...it will be cheaper that buying a 60Gb and a PS2 .Plus you will have double the hard drive space,two USB sockets more and Motorstorm throw in as bundle-game.Even the 60Gb unit would be cheaper for you that buying the 40Gb and a PS2 again .
