Not a dark horse, and it's not going to win, but it is a contender and will probably be my personal GOTY. Much like RE5 was for me in 2009, came out in March and I still pop it in occasionally, after playing through it 7 times!

FF13 isn't true competition for Mass Effect 2.

I know FF13 is a JRPG & ME2 a WRPG

but the awards don't have a WRPG & JRPG award, they have an RPG award, so they are competing for the same award at the end of the day.

Bollocks I say. ME2 is an early front runner by the look of things, not a dark horse at all.

Demon's Souls is a classic example of a Dark horse: not even available world wide; sold a lot less than 1 million to date; hardly known at all outside PS3 circles; everyone expected Dragon Age: Origins to take out everything RPG related this year, and some overall GOTYs as well. ME2 will have none of those elements making it a dark horse contender, it's the leading RPG of 2010 from what I can see, how does that make it a dark horse?

Yeah, and at the end of the day EA Sports will have a game with a lot of awards, just like the first Mass Effect. Final Fantasy wont be much competition on a critical basis. As far as popularity Final Fantasy wins, but you know the hardcore will make sure to vote Mass Effect for RPG of the year when the voting starts kicking in.
