So... what does this mean Wii-2 or some sort of upgraded wii-hd?

It means a Wii 2, a new console. Look at these quotes from the article I linked before:

"We would expect publishers to support such a move, given that the cost of porting an Xbox 360 game to the new Wii Plus HD format would likely be lower than the cost of building a ground up Wii game (we estimate under $5 million)."

"Should Nintendo be able to convince publishers like EA and Take-Two that the Wii Plus should be supported by the entire EA Sports catalog and by the next installment of Grand Theft Auto, it should be in a position to successfully convince consumers that the Wii Plus is the last console they will ever need to purchase," Pachter said.

Since he's talking about games specifically developed with the new console in mind, it can't be fully compatible with the Wii...

Wii-Plus sounds like the same wii-console except with some kind of major add-on boost in my opinion, if he would have said wii-2 he would have, also i dont think nintendo has ever kept the name of consoles, they changed it each gen.

Hmmm, to me, it stands as some sort add-on on the current wii-console. again though, thats jus' my thoughts on it.

Ignore the name and focus on the rest of what he said. His quotes imply that games would be especially developed for the Wii HD. Therefore it's not just a seamless upgrade, it's a new console.

Cheebee ended this thread several post back. Between him and NJ5 there isn't much left to say. Pachter must have some incriminating evidence against Wedbush Morgan. That is the only thing that can explain his continued employment.

I've got an open mind when it comes to gaming, and i dont think hes saying a new console, however if this is the case... of which i personally doubt, then many wii owners are going to be screwed over since its not an upgrade they could purchase instead all those current wii owners would have to buy a new console. i couldn't even see MS or Sony pulling off such an act of Greed.

Nintendo will not pull a Sega, and leave so many casual people in the dust with a new console so soon; not that they are the only people that are buying them. It would be a terrible business decision to introduce a new console with better graphical capabilities at this time, when a great deal of new gamers that came aboard couldn't care less about graphics. The Wii is still selling like crazy by historical standards, and just got a ton of momentum back during the holiday season. I would love for Nintendo to come out with a graphically superior console, but I am perfectly content to ride out the next couple years with great games. Also, I am assuming the longer the wait, the cheaper the comparable tech will be for power under the hood for the next Nintendo console; meaning that the the next generation consoles will all be virtually indistinguishable graphically. I mean lets face it, the graphics are getting pretty hard to differentiate at this point compared to past generations.

On a side note, there is probably some possibility that Nintendo could release (what I would call) an enhanced Wii; which, if you wanted to put it into terms of PC games, would be designed so a game could be released and play with low detail at 30fps@480p on a regular Wii while it could play at high detail at 60fps@1080p on the new Wii.

The (virtually impossible) challenge of this would be to get developers to treat both consoles as a single platform and consumers to accept this new platform; primarily because the capabilities of the Wii would determine what could be produced, and the main benefit of the new system would be a crisper, cleaner and smoother version of Wii games.

I want to be clear that I don’t expect this to happen, because there is a very large risk associated with behaviour like this. I do think this is a good generation for the console manufacturers to do a much more seem-less transition to new upgraded hardware rather than having a distinct generational transition; primarily because I don’t find the technical limitations of any of the systems to be bad, but I would like to see more stable performance from most games and a cleaner presentation from all consoles.

Now, I know there will be people who think that increasing the resolution and detail of Wii games without moving to advanced shader effects is pointless; but the only problems I have ever really had with Wii (or Gamecube) graphics are when games have aliasing and muddy textures because developers are lazy (most cases) or are pushing the system close to its limits (Resident Evil 4 would be the best example of this). If you eliminate these problems I don’t really see a need to upgrade the Wii at this point in time.

Edit: To a certain extent, a lot of what I'm suggesting could be handled with minimal effort on the developer's side of things. If Nintendo just created an openGL extension for texture filtering, and allowed developers to specify the texture filtering algorithm when loading a texture, and this filtering happened when a game was run at high resolutions you could get a lot cleaner of graphics at (almost) no cost.

I did my best.... seems like there's no stopping these people! They refute logic.

Pachter has some sort of Wii HD fetish. He has been predicting it since at least mid 2007, when the Wii was less than a year old. At that time, he expected it to be on shelves in 2009. Oops, got that wrong. He quietly shifted his prediction to 2010 later.

This is just a wild guess. It is not based on any insider knowledge of the industry, it is just a guess, and a bad one at that.
