majority of the things in the article aren't hidden. Sounds like he bought a system for his kids to shut up and then sold it cuz they didn't

I woudn't make fun of the guy as much as is done here though.
It's true that the price of peripherals has exploded and the real cost of a console is a lot higher than the advertised cost ( not including extra games).
Seriously, back when the PS2 was king and few ppls played on the net, the only extra cost was one extra controller...

There is also the memory card, but if you avoid the peripheral requiring games, the games are the only extra cost.

Although that also applies to the systems now if you just want another controller and the games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'll bet he hates those 2 kids of his!!

All the hidden costs he's had to pay out since having them!

This is actually a very good column. I bought the Wii for Christmas and extra costs add up incredibly fast. Mainly because it's a party conssole and you need, really you need up to 4 extra controllers. Now of course each extra controller happens to come in two pieces and cost $60. Then you need an extra game. And I didn't even have to worry about batteries.

Lets say you just buy the Wii, one extra controller, and one extra game, it's already $310, and you probably want more controllers and batteries.

If you're buying a PS3 or 360 OTOH, you can probably get by with one controller, maybe pick up a  second tops later, 3rd or 4th out of the question.

I guess the unique thing to Wii is that you need so many controllers. And that being a "party" console you feel like you need more games with the system too, if that makes any sense.

Haha how can you be that old and not know about "hidden costs" in well ANYTHING. That is just pathetic haha. I mean I guess this guy has never been sent a free shaving razor in the mail only to find out that he has to buy the razor heads to keep shaving. Guess he sent that back in the mail as well. Or when he bought his ipod and realized it didn't come with every song he wanted on there and returned that as well.

I mean come on, this is just how it goes and if you don't like it then well just don't buy anything ever. Wii, like all the other systems and any other electronics or any other product really in existence, isn't going to be something that can be used immediately out of the box with all your needs forever. You'll have to spend money on other things. It's just an embarrassment to the human race that a grown man would even speak of this in an ignorant fashion. Another notch down for humanity.

Reading the actual thing, it's not even close to being as bad as Kotaku makes it seem. I found myself enjoying the article reading it in its enitirety.
