I happened to me when I was 20, I stopped playing videogames for about a year, then started again with sport and music games (mostly FIFA and Rock Band) and now I'm back enjoying a lot of hardcore gaming...

But, that's not it. I still have loads of fun when playing the right games. I thought my post was pretty clear on that.

I think what'd be best is if I just stop buying all video games that interest me and just go for the ones I find extremely intriguing and know that I'll like. Also, I think I'd benefit from replaying old games that I love instead of trying to wade my way through a backlog full of games I don't even want to play all that much.

Thing is, I feel compelled just by the very presence of my backlog to make sure it disappears and isn't filled with tons of games I've bought/downloaded but never completed.

I sometimes feel the same way about certain genres. I'll get burnt out on certain genres, and then I just need to mix it up a little bit.

I like Battlefield, but I don't like CoD style or Halo styled FPSs? But those just seem like indidivudal games and franchises to me. I'm not a fan of the FPS genre, since there are a lot of FPSs I didn't like (Resistance 2 for instance).

Two things:

1. I'm baffled by your boredom with Assassin's Creed II. I can see getting bored in the first one--it's a great game, but gets very repetitive and is pretty much the same missions over and over. But to each his/her own I guess.

2. I don't think you should get too discouraged just yet. If you look at the last few months (specifically Oct. through Dec. 2009), there were definitely some gems that came out (Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, MW2, ACII), but it wasn't the bum's rush of new blockbusters that we usually get.

That being said.....take a look at just Jan-March of 2010. Holy crap. If you don't look forward to any of that, you're crazy.

Maybe you're just not in the mood for Assassin's Creed II. I felt the same way about other games but my mind was changed when I went back to them later on.
