Forums - Sales Discussion - Natal and Wand to reach beyond Wii says EA Europe's senior VP

What it is certain is that they will be better than the Wiimote. No company would be retarded enough to release a subpar product while they are trying to compete in such markets. It would be like thinking the next Firefox will be a downgrade compared to IE 8.

However I think the point here is about reaching audiences, right? It would come down to software mostly, I think. That would be another side of the coin. You can be clearly better on a technical way, but games come down mostly to subjective experience, so to speak.

EA strikes again. I think he'll not only get burned over this but properly deep fried.

I don't see this happening. I don't think Microsoft or Sony have the competence to release something on the level of Wii Fit.

Above: still the best game of the year.

I wonder...While i'm certain that Natal will do okay, i'm not so sure about the wand. Without a nunchuck of some kind the idea is incomplete.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

If EA thinks you're on to a winner, enormous failure is imminent.

Well it's best to not take that comment out of context. He's not saying it is going to do as much and more as the Wii remote but just saying that Natal/Wand aren't only going to copy the Wii's success in bringing in new gamers (meaning it's not just going to appeal to those EXACT same people that have been brought in). Just saying they have the potential to bring more people into the industry other than those brought in by the Wii.

EA has to nail motion controls...all those official liscences can't assure the best sports experience anymore because someone can make a football game without a liscence that absolutely nails motion-controls and have the experience feel 'more real' even without NFL sanction because of the controls. The same thing is true for their other big sports franchises.

Natal/Wand > Wiimote?? Maybe motion controls 1:1, but for the controller functions, are you sure?

If you want to play Super Mario Galxy you use Wiimote, for LOZ Twilight Princess use Wiimote, for Silent Hill SM use Wiimote, for NSMBWii use Wiimote, for Mario Kart Wii use Wiimote, for NMH use Wiimote...all games with wiimote.

If you want to play a platformer on XBOX360 or PS3, you'll use natal/wand? Natal dont use controller and wand only have one way. In other way, Wiimote can be used alone, like a nes controller, with nunchuk or with a peripheral. (Wii Zapper, Wii Wheel)

You can't play Halo 3 or Uncharted 2 with natal/wand (until now). So...

natal&wand =/= wiimote

natal&wand = wii motion plus (peripheral)

People seem to be very limited in their vision. Regular games will not be going anywhere on the 360. Reach will still be a controller experience and will be kick ass. Natal is only something that is ADDING to the 360 consumer's experience. It isn't taking away anything. Not currently anyway. The only way it would take away from the regular controller experiences on the 360 is if it was incredibly successful. And if it becomes successful enough to alter development trends for the system, then that means people are wanting it. I truthfully do not understand the resentment towards the hardware. It will be there for people wanting it, and it will not be there for people who do not want it. Simple. Not sure why having more shit available to you is a bad thing.

If you would like to see some ideas for Natal(which, judging by my thread's post count, there aren't many interested in passing ideas around, only passing FUD) here is a thread with some ideas I had: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=90211&page=1

The hardware IS coming, perhaps it would be more fruitful to discuss what IS possible on the system. Why try to shoehorn current genres onto the system. Trying to play tennis with a baseball bat is not a good idea.

Cause we aren't paid to come up with the idea for mario. We pay to play it.  If they want us to believe they may wanna show us something to get us interested as most people don't care about the technical side of the experience anyway.

Going further where most games today are  popular gameplay mechanic A in popular setting Z = new game I think that developers nowadays are limited in vision.  If you wanna walk around with you head in the clouds that's fine but if current development trends aren't ignored Natal just isn't going to have compelling software.  I would let them SHOW me otherwise but they seem to wanna do everything but that.
