Pretty good sales. The main obstacle for LBP I felt was the install base and demographic of PS3 plus the unkown factor of the UGC.

The PS3 has lost a big chunk of former PS2 demographic to Wii, who would have driven even more sales of the title I think, plus I'm sure the whole UGC put some off too.

Personally I think 3 million is pretty good, even allowing for lower price. Also, I'd be willing to bet that any losses on the lower price to get the title into homes was more than covered by the DLC. Everyone I know with LBP has spent plenty on top with DLC for costumers, packs and the like.

I'm lazy, but I'd wager someone said that. LBP brought out a lot of funny behavior. I can tell you a good place to start looking for that type of post if you are dedicated enough. Rock_On's thread about LBP being the Mario killer is likely to have brought it out. You would need to look in more than a few people's individual post history as they have been permabanned. Crazzyman is the other one I could think of since he routinely predicted 7-8 million as I recall.

On topic:
Clearly not a flop, but I would say it is probably performing under-expectations. Sony was pushing hard for it to be the mascot before release, but that all died off quite some time ago. Of course that is far from the best measure of whether or not the game should be considered a success. As it has gotten a sequel, and continues to see developer support it would be impossible to claim it was anything but profitable for the company. Expectations were just a bit too high for it this time around.

C'mon guys it's a flop. It was heavily bundled. It was cheap everywhere. It didn't meet Sony and MM expectations that's why it have a GOTY edition and that's why MM is keep on supporting it with DLC.

Not sure I get your logic there.  I doubt it met some expecations Sony had (which were flawed IMHO from the start) but I don't see the link that games that don't perform do get a GOTY edition and DLC - or is it that my sarcasm detector is flawed?

If LBP weren't performing it wouldn't be supported with DLC, etc. but instead MM would have moved on to other projects.

I am really just tired lots of people are still trying to downplay LBP. It's really tiring to defend it all the time. Even if this one reaches 4m or 5m. Lot's people will still find ways to discredit it's accomplishments. Might aswell post something like this because you know it will never end haters will be haters.

I really think, given it's art style, commitment to UGC and general inovative approach, LBP is a very good success indeed and find myself defending it as well.  Just for the editor mode and its physics alone I think it is an amazing achievement, and I never tire of playing with my kids building stuff with it - and neither do they.

LBP isn't a flop, but it isn't really a hit since it didn't meet Sony's expectations.
