Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Working on New Disc Format, Possibly For PS4

Sony did not copy nintendo with the motion wand. The development of their motion controller has been going for years now. Heck they preliminary showed 1 to 1 motion control back at sony e3 2005 while demostrating the playstation 3's capabilities. Heck they've even worked on motion control with the eyetoy. I find it very hypocritical for people picking on the motion wand for being a wii remote rip off while ignoring the fact that what natal does has already been done with the eyetoy.

Seriously?!

Sony's wand is a direct move to copy Nintendo's success, just as the late and poorly added six-axis really bad attempt for Sony to say they've always had it, lol. Both MS and Sony said the wiimote wasn't going to work and Wii would fail. Now that it obviously didn't fail, they both are introducing solutions of their own. Difference is Sony simply copied what Wii did in such a way that won't cause issues with patents, i.e. using the eyetoy and no nunchuk, while MS tried to do what they usually do and actually outdo what they are copying.

Also, your statement saying that Natal is equal to eyetoy simply shows your lack of understanding of the technologies. Natal is at its most basic idea the same as eyetoy as in cameras that can capture movement, but in reality eyetoy cannot do anywhere near the full functionality that Natal is going to be able to do because it doesn't sense depth, only flat images. That's a big difference. That is why the Wiimote alone is < the wand where as wiimote w/ WM+ is equal to the wand.

However, add in the nunchuk and Wii's design is still better than both of their ideas for the general wide variety of genres, imho.

2010 will sure be interesting to see Natal/Wand in finalized form with games.

You think? I hope not otherwise what's the point of putting these controllers out. I hope to see some interesting and solid solutions with full gameply by E3.

Granted, my feeling is still that from what I've seen so far, neither will be able to play the majority of genres and won't be a huge impact on their systems, but I hope I'm wrong and see something really awesome from Natal specifically.

i think sony should just stick with blu-ray and save themselves the money instead.

What's the point of putting them out?  Well I think that MS just wants to look dynamic and busy, as long as they try they can at least say that, right?

Exactly, people assume way  too much in this thread.

@Superchunk

There is nothing that leads anyone to believe the next generation of gaming starts in 2012.

Microsoft themselves said the XBOX 360 isn't even half way through its life cycle.

Nothing? Just the 20+ years of history in console gaming, that's all.

then if you are going by history M$ would be releasing this year and Sony and nintendo next year..... history means nuthin this gen.

6TB is just so over the top. Even of the console was 6-7 years away to allow the PS3 10 year lifecycle to come to play there is nothing conceivable we can output that would require more storage on a single disc than ten home computers' full storage capacity put together.
I call shenanigans on this one.
And what about drives and processing units? The hardware required to make full and good use of so much information is beyond any of our imaginations at this point and certainly won't pop up within half a decade.

Way to go slapping all current Blue Ray owners in the face. Might piss people off more than 32X/Saturn.

I LOVE ICELAND!
