Joke post? Mario Galaxy is the biggest Wii release game since the launch of the console. That's why retailers ordered 700k initially. They didn't even sell half. Disappointment total. I'm certain they'll eventually sell the 700k, too, but this is shocking nonetheless.

I, too, was wrong about SMG. I thought they would sell out. Japan is so ... unpredictable these days.

We were all wrong. The game sold half of what I thought it would for the week. I knew the Japanese market was shifting to portables but the shift is occurring faster than anticipated. The next generation of consoles will be the mainstream in the West and a niche in Japan and when it comes to portable systems the opposite will be the case.

New SMD had great legs and it frequently breaks into the Jap. Top 10. Expect SMG to follow a similar pattern.

I'm not into predictions but I did think it would sell very well... How weird!

500k prediction here, off by... 100% or 50%, depending which way you look at it.

at 250k, as astonishing as it sounds, WiiFit would most likely have a substantially bigger launch.

i'm gonna put it at 375k, 50% more than Galaxy.

I guessed 500k, so looks like I was "only" 100% wrong. =P

Still think it'll do several million in Japan alone though.

I was also way off considering I predicted 700k first week. :( I was really hoping this game would have done better in Japan since it's one of the Wii's biggest titles, but there is nothing I can do to change that. I still think it will do really well in Japan, but maybe not as much a I initially hoped.

Apparently it wasn't as big as everyone thought. And it's not the biggest title for Wii. If you don't count Wii Play and Wii Sport than Mario Party 8 would be the biggest (openning week: 282k).

Guilty -- i also thought that it would sell through the roof..

However I still think it'll have legs, so not all is lost (yet)

I actually find it quite sad that Mario Party 8 had the same magnitude of an opening. Hopefully it will have the same type of legs as New Super Mario Bros. did in America but if Galaxy doesn't do well it will be a real shame.
