Here is what I think will happen, please do no get upset as it is just an opinion not a fact:

  • Wii is going to go mad sales wise, it is going to utterly destroy everything in 2010, and that is down to the games coming for it this year alone.
  • PS3 is going to do better than X360 in sales because of the huge momentum it has starting in 2010, not to forget the possibility of titles such as FF13vs releasing at christmas (that would help them out a lot), plus X360+Natal will cost more than ps3+PSEye+PSWands(2), and people will probably choose Wii or PS3 for their gaming fix.
  • X360 is going to sell even less consoles this year, and it will upset it's user base because Natal is going to cost a lot of money, so it will be too expensive for casuals to consider buying X360+Natal, which means only a few existing users on the X360 will actually bother with Natal.

Here is a big question what doe MS has up it sleeves to counter the PSWand release?? Wii can survive on games alone, lol.

Sony's Eye cost $40 dollars, and then you have to buy the Gem itself another $40-50? And then of course now you have to have another dualshock as well

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=eye

So Playstation Eye, 2 Gems, and a dualshock

$180

Microsoft's Natal $50-$80 http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/11/11/project.natal.price.ship.targets.slip.out/

Yeah, which is more expensive

I did not realise they had confirmed a price for Natal or the PS Wands just yet, I was just looking at the technology and just thought that there was now way that Natal is going to be cheap, but if MS wants to make it cheaper that's cool I guess. Seriously have you got an article confirming the gem for that price yet, just wondering, anyway good job for finiding that info

Finally if they add on an analogue stick to the gem you will not need a dual shock controler, so you can remove that from the cost, I already have a PSEye, so of course my costs for buying the wands are not going to be as much as some.

it's the future of handheld

Do you think MS will put up the price of live to fund NATAL?? That is the only way I can see MS making back some of the money it costs to make Natal, but then again I could be wrong

~No~

Seems to me both the Natal and gem don't measure up to the Wiimote even without motion+:

Natal needs bottoms, how are you going to shoot a gun, pause a game, move your character, change weapons?

Gem needs another controller just to get the same experience, and even still no analog stick:(

Gaming make me feel GOOD!

Umm I'm guessing you didn't see the Half-Life 2 footage

Iwata announced Zelda is releasing in 2010, most likely holiday '10...microsoft and sony lose.

Iwata said the game would release in 2010, but he failed to mention where, going by logic it will be Late 2010 for Japan, Very late 2010 to Early 2011 for America and Others.

i doubt nintendo would release A main line zalda game in japan first seeing how its more popular EVERYWHERE outside of japan.

and for a game like Zelda, thats not a long time seller like wii sports new super mario bros etc...

it would make sense to release the game everywhere durring the holidays to mazimize sales.

oh and plus, nintendo has been releasing most of thier games in america first latlely..

wii sports resort....nsmbw, mario kart.

hello how are you.

This year seems pretty straight forward.

Nintendo will stay on top by sheer overwhelming console sales which result in sales of their core games.

Microsoft is not even trying... In 2009 they could have easily cut prices another 50% and they still would have broken even on hardware. They elected to make money instead and as a result Sony gained market share. The funny part is, even without any real attempt to compete, MS has won the fight in the US. Now they have a lot of options.

- Drop prices and completely blow away Sony in the US and gain market share in EU. You make less money from hardware but increase software income.
- Leave prices alone and keep making games... This would not be my choice but for executives trying to bolster the bottom line this might look safer.
- Buy out some developers. I would have taken TTwo or THQ when they were cheaper. They are still priced reasonably. They can easily take TTwo (especially now with Icahn holding a big stake) for around $1b. They can also take THQ for less than $500m. I wouldnt bother with EA or Activision because I think they are significantly over priced and they would need to take out financing to buy them whereas they get both TTwo and THQ with cash already on hand.

Sony... is essentially screwed from a business perspective. All they can do right now is make games and pray that those will turn the tide for their business. If MS gets aggressive its all over for them this generation.

The wildcards this year and next are Natal. If they can perfect the technology and make a few really great games it will change the market dynamics possibly.

^^Sony not really screwed, they have great momentum going for them right now in contrast to microsoft..and their gaming investments seems to be paying off, eg uncharted 2. but you are absolutely right when u imply that microsoft has more money to spend, from that perspective sony is screwed in comparison to microsoft

I meant screwed from a business perspective. They are losing tons of money from almost all their businesses not just gaming. From that perspective, their shareholders are extremely angry and they will have problems getting financing for buyouts if they wish to do so.
