HAHAHHAHAHA I can't believe they actually called it "controller free gaming." Because that was on the NES. Yeah it wasn't that good, but it was controller free, and designed for the disabled.

These days Time is about as populist as Oprah and The View. I used to think it was a great weekly news mag. But not any more, they've gone the way of CNN and Fox, going more for popularity and pizaz than for hard investigative journalism.

"Controller Free Gaming"
This has been done for years and years They should have just said "Natal".
Even this gen, controller free gaming has already been done before Natal...
How can they award it if it haven't even launched(if it ever launches)? Yeah, let's give the Best Movie of the Year award to a trailer too!
Above: still the best game of the year.
akuseru said: well, controller free gaming is certainly NOT A NEW INVENTION... We had this controller free gaming on the PS2 with the Eye Toy. And this is not a PS EYE vs Natal debate, it is a fact! A cold hard fact. And Natal is certainly not a greater invention than AIDS-vaccine or teleportation or basically any of the other inventions named on that list. Just shows how little serious the list is when controller free gaming, which isn't even new OR released, is this high on the list. |
Did you even read the part about 'teleportation'? It's not so much teleportation as it is instant transformation/transportation of data. It's not technology that will lead to Star Trek-esque teleportation.
But as Squilliam said, this is just a popularity contest anyways, and Natal in 5th bodes well for it's eventual release.

You sure about that?

Yes, I did. Did you??? Not like Star Trek you say??? (Even though I never watched it) NO SHIT!!!!??!?!? And now I though I was ready to just teleport across the world in a few years time!! Damn you for destroying my dreams. But thank you for insulting my intelligence though...
"scientists at the University of Maryland's Joint Quantum Institute successfully teleported data from one atom to another in a container a meter away"
If that is not cooler and more groundbreaking than something like Natal, I don't know what to say.... Teleportation between ATOMS is amazing no matter what. Everything in this world is built on/from atoms, so yeah, I believe something like this is a huge achievement in scientific research.. At least more than years old, laggy controller free gaming tech using cameras... If natal used brainwaves or something, then yes... but it's a camera... we have had cameras for ages..
but ye, it is a popularity contest, but if it is, why do they write: "From a rocket of the future to a $10 million lightbulb, here are TIME's picks for the best new gadgets and breakthrough ideas of the year".. doesn't really sound like a popularity contest to me... also in the user polls (found here: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1934027_1937542_1937541,00.html ) Natal got the second most votes (24.900) but have and average rating of 57 (whatever that means) and are ranked as #30....
