Forums - Gaming - Gamekult FF13 import review - 7/10 - its a bad RPG, a bad FF

Ive played the game the reviews right, its an average RPG and a poor FF game. I know people are excited for it because its the next FF, but i promise the vast majority of you will be disappointed just like people were with FF12.

If your hoping for another FF7, FFX stop now because you'll be disappointed.

I personally think its better than FF12 but inferior to FF7-10.

So, according to them, it's just as bad as FFVI (PSOne), Dissidia, Crisis Core and FFIII (DS).  However it is better than FFIV (DS)....

So, it looks like it will be a great game.

Where did you glean that from?

-edit-

And does anybody else find it funny that if this review was a 9/10 or 10/10 everyone would be confirming FFXIII as the best one yet but since it's a 7/10 the review can't be trusted and people are just bashing it for no reason.

Little bit.  Though I think most people would call it the "second best".

Either behind 7 or 10 depending on what generation they started playing Final Fantasy games.

I think what gets to me about this is that I played VII about 18 months ago and I can see where people get off calling it the best gamee in the series. It's not perfect, sure, but it has parts that are legitimately excellent and it was much better-written than I expected it to be. But X? I cannot see the justification for it. Not yet. Maybe later on.

ive been saying the game is going to be bad for a while now...and i would like to accept this review....but i just cant.... his use of "reflexion" really, really annoys me.

IX was the best of the post-2D Final Fantasies, with XII being the second best.
FF gamers these days just want a cool main character with a badass weapon so they can kick vicarious ass. Throw in a mediocre plot with a few cliche-ridden villains/supporting characters, gloss it all over with pretty graphics, and you've got a smash hit new Final Fantasy.

FF XIII looks to be the worst offender on all of these accounts so far. I've had very little hype from the day it was announced that the main character was named "Lightning"--that naming choice alone speaks volumes about the mindset behind the game.

Holy shit! Best post I've read since I've joined, you have great taste!

Final Fantasy 9 is also my Favorite for the PSOne.

Lol me too. It trumps FF7 and FF8. As my favorite. I just played it again. It aged way better than FF7 or FF8 in my opinion.

People were disappointed with FF8. I loved it.

People were disappointed with FF12. I really enjoyed it.

It looks like I'll be enjoying this FF. Then again, I have enjoyed every main FF game that I have played (FF4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and 12) in order (FF8,9,5,7,4,12,10,6)

Really?  I played FF7 at launch and was bitterly disapointed.  I've even played it multiple times since to try and give the game a fair shot since I hate being unfair to a game... but it's just never clicked for me, in either a "I like it" way or a "I see why people like it" way.  Including the story.

Which is rare... since I can usually see why people like a game I don't enjoy.

As for 10... honestly, I'm not sure i remember enough to say about it.  Outside of the hilarious bad voice acting at parts.  Really after 8 I checked out.  Hoped 8 would be better then 7, and all I can remember is i cared way more for the actual card game then I did the game.

After that I skipped 9, played only small parts of 10... and really didn't play another FF game seriously till 12.

Which I plan to pick up again later.  FF13 has me hopeful that it will refine 12 gameplay wise.  Though I am concerned about the story... in that the characters look like people I wouldn't like... and the way people look often tells you a lot about their personality in videogames... espiecally JRPGs.

Yea, this review is definite proof the game is worse than Supes 64 and evidence for why you should go on eBay and buy left over copies of ET for NES instead.

To sum up a title as FF XIII is finally easy. It is a bad RPG, a bad Final Fantasy, but also a sympathetic mix of reflexion and contemplation. The player go through the game in straight line of completely empty beautiful environments before demolishing the end of corridor boss and the various monsters interposing. The actual gameplay of the title is about its original and catchy combat system which focused as much on reflexes as with reflexion. The compulsive interventionism of the first 20 hours may irritate, but also reassure the beginners to whom the game is aimed at with his with beautiful adeventure side. Visually very impressive but rather poor on animations, the title is a postcard of every moment, an incredible aesthetic made with success. Add a scenario which mixes the large SF with some high-school girl 'fanfic', and you obtain a little empty but well made up curiosity. To try only for the splendid combats and the second part of the game, clearly fascinating and impressive.

lol that the sum up of the reviewer
