This is unrelated, but let me tell you a story.....

Last week, I went with my friend to Blockbuster, to see what 360 games they had that he could play locally with his GF.

Looked for 20 minutes and found none. He then told me he was seriously considering trading in his 360 for a Wii to compensate.

Last year, a 360 is all he wanted, but that is because the only one who would play it. If you have more than 1 friend willing to play videogames with you, a game with local multiplayer is key. NSMB would be unused by me if I bought the game. I'd rather play with my friends and family. That's just me.

He must not have looked very hard.

Re5, Forza 3 for example both have local multiplayer..

Don't think those are the kind his GF would like.

Finally, someone got it. You get a cookie LTNK

If you are trying to get buns, you do not break out Forza Motorsport 3 or Tekken 6. Remember that.

There's this thing called the Gym, you should try it.....

LOL. Let me put it into terms you can understand.

If you want access to your spouses "special place", the Wii is the Key.

I wouldn't play this game online... the whole fun is in messing up and getting in the way of each other, which would only be frustration online, but fun IRL.

Yea, it's fun, the first couple of times it happens. Then when it happens constantly you start to get pissed.

Local play is good, but how often are you going to have people around to be playing with you? I usually have most fun playing online games with friends in the early hours of the morning.

If messing up and getting in the way of each other isn't something you'd find fun, then yeah you'd start to get pissed. But I think you'll find that the millions who are singing the praises of this game fall into the category of enjoying the chaos.

Most good local multiplayer games are a social experience; the games are just an excuse to be together with people you like. Solo games (and most online multiplayer) are about over coming the challenge of the game.  When you say people get pissed because of messing up it is because you are putting the expectations of game of challenge onto a game of socialising. The people who love NSMW love it because they see it for what it is - a reason to spend to with their friends.

As for how often are people going to be around, I know for me, 100% of the time. The only times I can game are when my buddies are over Saturday nights or with my son; the rest of my life is completely booked.

There is such irony in this oft repeated line?

The critisism you are trying to express is that people are wasting their money by buying WiiFit (and other related Wii games); they will use it a few times and then never again; they will never lose any weight. So you are saying that instead of buying WiiFit they should have gone to the gym.

The irony is that for decades this is exactly the critisism people have had of gyms. Most people who buy a gym membership go a couple of times then never again. Most people who buy a gym membership never lose any weight. It has long been said that a person could get better results cheaper by just exercising on their own (you know, for free).

On-line is for sados with no friends, local multiplayer is a far better experience. It's great that Nintendo are getting people in the same household playing video games togther again rather than kids playing games in their bedrooms on their own.

local multiplayer is all this game needed and its awesome the way it is, having a pure blast playing this with my gf and friends.

Designing the game to fit it would be one.

Designed to fit on the disc? If so I call bullshit. The NSMB Wii disc is filled with a lot of extra garbage and the actual game itself is barely above 700MB.

I doubt he's referring to storage space. New Super Mario Bros Wii is built around local multiplayer, online multiplayer would mean they have to also worry about network problems like latency. A fast pace 2D platforming game with collision detection would be unplayable online by most people.

While I have no issues with the game in it's current state even though I used to, I wouldn't accept an excuse like this from a company who boasted about having the most powerful developers.
