Chill out people, no reason to fight. Standards are standards, you both have points, but it's been painfully obvious for a while that many "professionals" aren't that professional and I believe thats the root of this issue, they might be able to review certain games well but many reviewers aren't well rounded enough to review across the board.

One great example of this is Gnizmo bringing up a review of a GBA 2D fighter being panned for not being 3D because the fighting genre "had evolved" beyond 2D. Do you really think that reviewer is capable of doing a good review of a Wii game and then a PS3/360 game and still keep standards where they should be?

And I bet whoever did that doesn't mind Super Turbo Street Fighter II HD, despite it being a 2D game.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

The main problem I see with Crystal Bearers is people expecting an RPG but getting an Action Adventure game.

I read over the review. What they had to say seemed fair.

6.2 is low, but the review sort of justified it.

Silent Hill deserves 9.4 how??

Eveyrtime IGN gives a score people don't like, it's always "omgz, IGN lost all respects".... and then next week, IGN gives a favourable review for another game, it's all back to normal.

 

It gets tiresome sometimes. The truth is, the game is just not polish enough. If you want to buy it, buy it, IGN isn't telling you to not buy a game.

I'm not going to complain about the review, because I haven't played the game, and it sure seems bizarre, so I can understand mixed reactions to it. I will, however, call reviewers out on one thing about this game - and that is the fact that nobody seems to be reviewing this game for what it is, but only what it isn't.

well, that is what I call "franchise effect". When you try something completely different (no leveling up, not as much customization, extremely short game, change of genre) apart from the main franchise, it is really a hit or miss with gamers. And review scores will go accordingly.

 

Saw this with RE5, saw this with FFXII, that is almost always why franchise games play almost the same.

I disagree, I watched the video review and he seemed to have a perfectly good grasp of what type of game it is.  He even talks about how it used to look like an RPG, and then switched to more of an action game.
