well, that is what I call "franchise effect". When you try something completely different (no leveling up, not as much customization, extremely short game, change of genre) apart from the main franchise, it is really a hit or miss with gamers. And review scores will go accordingly.
Saw this with RE5, saw this with FFXII, that is almost always why franchise games play almost the same.
