Forums - Sales - Why did Square Enix stick with Sony?

FF XIII wouldn't be possible on the Wii. No, really. This is different from the "We wouldn't be able to do this on the 360" statements...their vision wouldn't be able to be realized.

FF XIII sold 1 million+ on PS3 DAY ONE in Japan. I'm sure they're majorly disappointed...

uh why? Than tell me why they left their first home the Nintendo?

casue of inferior hardware, cartriges would have held back FF.

Honestly FF with out kickass graphics is not real FF.

PS3 will make some of the most pretty FF ever.

@Soriku: He's asking for it, otherwise he wouldn't publicly state it.

Big as in important. DQX will be the last one, I don't think they will make a DQ remake. The Wii will be lucky to get a Dragon Quest Swords sequel, which was a mediocre game no one bought outside the most loyal DQ fans. Portables and HD consoles will get all the good games and new IP's. There will be no KH for the Wii, I'm willing to be quoted on that too. Reasons are, well SE doesn't like making SD games for home consoles and as already asked Nintendo to release an HD console. Plus with the huge succes of FFXIII and several other core games on the PS3, plus the option of having them released on the 360 too, I see SSE fully supporting the HD consoles, considering how much they have invested on them.

I think Wii was lucky enough to get DQX.

DQ remakes are basically tradition at this point, going all the way back to SFC.  It'd be the first time a console got a mainline DQ without getting a remake since the series started actually.  A DQ remake on Wii is basically a forgone conclusion imo, the only possible "out" I can see is if they released the older DQ games on Virtual Console instead... and honestly, I suspect we'll get both (DQI-VI VC and DQVII Wii).

DQ Swords sold pretty well too, better than all but 3 PS3 games in Japan even.  I guess you consider FFXIII, Yakuza 3 and MGS4 the only "huge successes" on PS3 or something? ;)

As for KH, I'm guessing we'll see what SE did with DS & PSP and give one each to Wii and PS360.  They have 2 KH teams now, they'll probably have the BBS team on Wii and the Vs team on PS360.

SE has no announced games coming up for the Wii, save for DQX. Plus DQVI remake has yet to be released, so I don't know if they will have enough time to work on a remake, unless DQX is late 2012 so they will release it as a filler in 2011. Plus, they said selling games like FFCC:CB to Wii owners was gonna be difficult, and it's true, neither retailers nor devs have any faith left in Wii 3rd party games. That's why we always see undershipments or on the other hand overshipments when it comes to sequels.

I don't think we will see KH this gen, FFvsXII hasn't even been released yet and there's still KH:BBS in development.

@ N64 Cartride:

the Smallest one has 4MB Space (the most used one), the Largest 64MB.(Used for 3 Games, one of them is RE2). (And the largest Version is times more expensive as a common CD).

and now imagine how many Cartirides they need for a Game that takes 1.3GB of space. (FFVII)

yepp, thats why they left Ninty.

Well according to Square Enix, Nintendo Choice of hardware wasn't right for them, and apparently the Nintendo cartridge didn't have enough storage for future FF Games.

Square asked Nintendo to change its cartridge to something else but Nintendo didn't really support Square and thats when Sony came in, Get it? lol

PSN: HienTran2691

XBL: IVietCong

Well, supposedly the controller bundled versions of SW3 and MH3 were undershipped.

KH BBS and DQVI are like a month away... I don't think either would hold off Wii titles indefinitely.

SE also has another FMA adventure game announced for Wii btw.  And the FFCC comment you're referring to came from Kawazu himself, and you're taking it vastly out of context.  How is Crystal Bearers in any way like a theoretical Wii DQ7 remake?

I as just stating that your sentence was incorrect. and that staying on one company's system is not a good idea for 3rd parties.
Also changing platforms can be good if done right

@jarrod: No, the FMA game was released last week, they've got nothing else coming up.

As for the FFCC:CB comment shows how little confidence they have on a game with the FF name on it, so imagine how they would feel about a minor franchise of them or a new IP. DQ is the only thing the Wii will get.
