Zelda is definitely by far the best game in the action/adventure genre.....no rip-off will take that away from Zelda.

The Metroid fan in me disagrees, but the The Legend of Zelda series is  the second best. :D *Hides from the rabid Zelda fans*

*Picks up pitchfork*

I'm with you sc....9....4 what the hell man?  why can't you have a normal name?

That is besides the point, Metroid is better.

i don't think any game on any other platform will stop zelda fans from wanting a zelda game.

imo, the only thing that an kill zelda hype is nintendo releasing zelda information that disappoints the fans. personally, my interest in zelda is waning after twillight princess failed to be much fun for me (the formula is getting old imo). my hype for the next zelda will be entirely dependent of if nintendo finds a way to freshen up the series not any MS/sony announcement (although a well done me-too game could grab my attention too)

Nope. Would not happen...

Simply because Zelda is an established franchise with one heck of a loyal fanbase.

I agree with Carl, it seems that Nintendo fans are more intense on the Zelda series even more than the Mario series.

I would like to confirm for those above that have mentioned it that Okami is indeed a better game than Zelda (Twilight Princess, anyways. Probably better than the others, too).

Okami

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

No. Of course it wouldn't happen.

Any game can be close to the greatness of Zelda franchise!

Not necessarily; when WW was first shown to the public, to say it disappointed the fans is an understatement (of course there were exceptions). Yet that single short trailer that was unleashed upon the unsuspecting world caused the game to become the most discussed about Zelda game ever. Whether people liked the design decision or not, the amount of hype was enormous.

Again, I still think Princess of Scheherazade was a better game than the original Zelda games, and in more recent memory ICO, SOTC, Dark Cloud 1 and 2 are on par and in some instances better. Zelda has mainly tradition, right marketing and established fans. It's like if you tell me that LO on 360 was better than Valkyrie Profile 1 on PS1, I would laugh at you (well most my friends would join in the laughter lol). If SOTC and ICO series would have come out since NES days I am 100% sure that the fans would be divided in half, or when you look at all those games objectively. It's like, you can have a 45 min Mario game, but because it has the "Mario" title, it will be loved (as long as it has at LEAST decent gameplay of course). It's like trying to tell diehard Halo fans that there are many other FPS's on console and PC that are better than Halo.
It is surprising I guess that although I grew up with Atari 2600, NES, etc, I wasn't swayed nor limited to being exclusively on the Zelda bandwagon considering I did get to play the games when they came out.

I think if you put Ico or SoTC on the Nes they would lose ALOT of their value and in that aspect they wouldn't be the same games. So I think you need a better example.

Not necessarily. Besides, you seem to not have read the NES to NES example that I gave to pit Zelda against another great and highly underestimated game "Princes of Scheherazade." ICO and SOTC are brought into comparisson with the post NES Zeldas. Some could argue that Dark Cloud 1 was a good attempt especially with the georama and Dark Cloud 2 simply perfected it. If Princess of Scheherazade wouldn't have been in the shadow like it was, it would easily steal the spotlight in current days. I suggest you play that game and beat it, although an NES game, you will still have fun (the Salamander when you travel in the past was a pain in the ass though, so tread carefullly on that boss).

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Here's a link you may want to check, and I always confuse the damn name of that game, it's The Magic of Scheherazade (in which you rescue the princess scheherazade....oopsy lol).

If you're a true Ninty fan, try that game out. I would go as far as saying it was one of the most underrated games ever.
