What a dumb concept. That implies that they somehow think they are at maximum happiness.

Isnt that what wii only owners think?  They are as happy as they could possibly be with games.. right?

maximum happiness... jesus what the hell are we even talking about here guys.

That you wouldn't think such a dumbfounded notion about Wii owners.

What the hell? I stopped listening to that garbage when they said that NSMBWii, just because it was on the Wii, was just another game o_O

Normally I don't take sides on this issue, since I think that every gaming company gets downplayed once in a while. It has happened to Sega, it has happened to Atari, it has happened to SNK and it has happened to Sony. Nintendo isn't any different and isn't a shielded company against this blight in gaming.

But the amount of lies and blatantly stupid things said in that podcast surpasses all basic notions of professionalism and journalism ethics. Seriously, if you would hear the conversation between two people who dislike the Wii, the content of that dialogue wouldn't be any different from this.

Also I don't agree with some posters in here, saying that the people that only have the Wii should experience other consoles because of the games. I'm pretty sure that Wii-only owners have all the reasons to be glad and happy with their console, because the Wii has lots of quality and magnificent games, so it's pretty condescending to use those terms against Wii owners.

In fact, it's the PS3/360 owners that should follow their own reccomendation and follow suit on their words, experience the Wii, experience it's great games and then come back with your arguments at that moment ;) Otherwise, you're just using double standarts that completely discredit your opinion.

Listen to what they said and compare to reality, you can see the massive gulf, for example, NSMB Wii is on track to be one of the highest selling games ever, and all their complaints about it won't change its success, not only financially, but as a bridging title, the idea that Wii is like E.T. game and that NATAL the wand will spell the Doom of the Wii just shows that they don't really have a grasp on the reality of the situation, basically they are raging on the Wii for the simple reason that its succeeding in its disruption and making them and the industry more irrelevant, what they complain about Nintendo being lzy and making gobs of monwy s because they can see that the HD market is losing money on more expensive games and heading to a dangerous tipping point, while Nintendo is sitting pretty, even in a down year, basically like Malstrom has been saying, the further along the Wii gets in its disruption, the more the industry will try and proclaim its failures and how its doomed.

This if for the wii only owners;
You can say it is for traffic if you want, but that is only the reason why they were allowed to post what they thought.
They are not fabricating the whole thing, this is how they feel.

I read through the summary, and even with the little sny additions in the OP, it still rings true.
Ask yourselves;
Would the wii be better with graphical improvements, an online system, 3rd party development?

It doesnt matter where you place the emphasis in your gaming experience, the simple answer is yes.

And imo, the GC was worlds different. It had great visuals, and the games had an overall richer feel to them. It seems like every wii game is a demo for a game that never comes.
Sure there are a very few exceptions, but that does not make the rest of the argument void.

If you are a wii only owner and you can possibly fathom any form of your wii games that could be better than they already are, (since everything can always be better)
Then seriously do yourself a favor and get a current gen system.

I understand you dont care about this or that , and games are about having fun... I agree with that, Just know that the wii is trumped on every possible level, not just visuals.

There is a whole other world out there, of GAMES. Games with amazingly rich stories, great visuals, games that will knock your socks off. There are even smaller (wii size) games that are leagues better with the XBL marketplace, and PSN store.

As a wii owner, you must admit it... its time to evolve.

The problem is, we have evolved, while a large part of the gamers considering themselves "hardcore" have a very reactionnary set-of-mind...

In the last 4 years, i've readed so many examples of this that now, i just can't stand it anymore: most of the analysts, critics and fanboys out there think that their tastes are universal, but they're NOT...

Wii is certainly not a revolution, but it's an evolution, a very needed evolution in the way games are build, controlled, and enjoyed... the best Wii games have given me a lot of fun, but what's most important, i just can't go back to the "old school" controllers anymore: i find these boring and very limited... i don't force anyone to agree with me, but that's how i feel...

Now, can Wii games be even better? Of course, there's always room for improvement... but are PS360 games automatically better? No... are achievements really needed? No... is online an absolute must? No... are HD visuals that important? No... are colourful visuals a failure? No... is ultra-realism the most important factor in gaming? No... are most "mature" games really that mature? No... has the gameplay evolved in any way in most PS360 games? No... do Nintendo's games involve bad level's designs and bad controls? No...

And don't forget: if a 360 DVD has enough room for a great-looking game in HD, then the same DVD has even more room for a great-looking Wii game in SD: it's not about the hardware, it's about the efforts made, the budget concerned, and the talent involved... Wii was not supposed to be successful, Wii has never been a priority for most third parties, and we all have seen the results... for at least 3 generations, it's been the same thing all over again, anyway... but you can't blame Nintendo or the hardware itself for that situation...

And if you really can't stand Wii games, if you find they can't even qualify as "great games", then how could you enjoy ANY game of the past?

Wii is easily 3 or 4 times more powerful than PS2, so all PS2 games were a waste of time and money, and sucked very deep? If you think so, it was your time and your money, not mines...  :)

Now, if only most "hardcore" gamers could just understand that there's no point in having three consoles with the exact same features and the exact same library, then we'd start to see an "evolution": PS3 and X360 are already nearly the same consoles, with only a handful of exclusive games to differentiate themselves, and the exact same potential userbase of 30-50 millions of people in mind: and you want Wii to be just the same? What would it bring on the table?

The problem is, the games you may like have no appeal to a vast majority of the world's population, the controllers you may like have no appeal to the people who didn't play for a long time, or even haven't touched a console in their life, and the consoles you may like have no games that most people would like for their kids, or for themselves... for me? Well, yes, maybe 5 to 10 games... but not more...really...

So in the end, why is it so hard to respect the people who don't share your tastes, and don't have the same needs and likings? Gaming is supposed to be for everyone, and not for a self-proclaimed "gaming elit" so full of itself...

Nintendo got it, before anyone else in the industry even thought about it... and that was their key to success...

Now, you're right, in some ways anyway: most Wii games are failures, and only the best Wii games are worth mentionning... but it has always been the same on any past console: only the best games are remembered, and will usually keep "evolving" in future sequels, on some "improved" hardware... you just don't see how improvement can't mean "ultra-realistic graphics", instead of "ultra-intuitive controls": but then, it's your problem... not mine, or ours...  :)

Ok. But I still don't know what that has to do with the death of the games industry.

^Well the Wii driving the industry more upmarket until it either collapses, or becomes niche is pretty much what will be the death of the industry, the braying of the people at IGN, only shows that its succeeding

And people say IGN isn't biasd.

I don't why so many people have a hard time taking a deep breath and looking at something from a wider view then their own perspective.

Wow that website has lost its mind. why would they piss off a third of their userbase like that. It might generate hits now, but it is only going to cause a detrimental effect in their future.
