Forums - Nintendo - Matt Casamassina: Nintendo is Lazy!

God, Nintendo is a company, it's here to do business and make as much money as it can, not to please fanboys. Geez, Economics 101. Of course they're not gonna make 10 big-budget AAA games and 3 cheap minigame compilations if the latter sell like 10 times more.
EVERY SINGLE company in the history of the WORLD would do the EXACT same thing. In fact, they ARE. Look at all the minigame compilations, sports games and ports. 3rd Party developers make these games because they are cheap to make and sell tons. Durh. (Of course there are exceptions)

Honestly, does anyone, *anyone* seriously believe either Sony, Microsoft or *any* other developer would NOT have done the exact same thing? Churn out games with budgets in the hundreds of thousands that sell in the tens of millions instead of games with budgets in the tens of millions that sell in the hundreds of thousands?

Come on. No matter how much of an ideal world some people would like it to be, with companies creating hardcore AAA games specifically for them, the end of the story is that developers are businesses out to make as much money with as little investment as possible.

People that go on like that are just spoiled fanboys who think the entire gaming world should cater to their 'needs' and who honestly feel that they have a *right* to these 'hardcore' games and developers are obligated to develop them for them. They're people who feel that casuals are inferior to them, some sort of lower lifeform to be looked down upon in disgust.
"Surely Nintendo can't be taking these casuals seriously? They love me and my hardcore gaming friends alone, because we've played their hardcore games for years; surely Nintendo realizes this and just quickly churn out casual games to then focus their full attention and resources on me and my whims!!"
... That when a company doesn't give them what they so desperately crave, that company is evil, lazy, and out to destroy their own perfect little secure world of hardcore happiness.
Well wake up and smell the bittersweet roses, that company doesn't care more about you than about the next Joe in the street who buys their products, they just want to make profits and have no obligations to anyone, least of all whining fanboys.

His opinion is his opinion. But I have to say, I ABSOLUTELY FUCKING LOVE the fact that Nintendo clearly being on top and dominating the industry makes whiny ass gamers so pissed. It sucks to be on the other side doesn't it? Year after year Nintendo tried their best to appeal to the core gamer, and year after year they've been spat on, dissed, cast to the side, and had their relevance questioned. Now that Nintendo is back in the forefront again doing their own thing and forging their own path, those same gamers who dissed Nintendo before are now the irrelevant minority, and it pisses them off.

Matt can whine and complain all he wants. But the fact is that he has completely forgotten about what videogames are and has bought into this ridiculous notion that technology is fun...not videogames. Pretty sad.

As for Nintendo, ROCK ON! Keep kicking ass and taking names. Yes 2009 was an off year, but 2010 certainly won't be. We've got your back, just keep forging on.

Wow, Matt is such a huge Nintendo fanboy at IGN, such a fanboy that any time I heard him in any podcast I just felt like turning it off, but for him to say what he said in this article...just wow, looks like he's opened his eyes to the reality and is starting to get the shits with the company he loves.

Methinks you have this man confused with somebody anybody else.

I figured it was obvious why Toad was used twice. Freakin' Peach is the one your saving!!! So who the hell else in the good side of Mario universe could it possibly be???

Miyamoto was obviously kidding in his response and the real reason is simply based on the story itself.

but they could have used wario or waluigi, or dasy, or birdo, or any other character that doesn't really fit the game. I mean come on, why isn't Samus in Mario kart?? It's because Nintendo is lazy.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

And how about Luigi? Hasn't he always just been a green colored Mario. It wasn't even till much later that they changed his look.

So, using IGN logic, this proves that Nintendo is the laziest company in the world. I bet Miyamoto is in Hawaii right now, laying on a beach, thinking of other corners to cut so he can take more vacations!

^ I could watch that for hours................... And I think I will!

LOL,

Play balance. It's a Mario game. Everyone must be perfectly balanced to make gameplay even across the board. Could you imagine playing an FPS and you got advantages based on models and other factors. Balance is hard enough and this form of platformer doesn't really need it.

I agree with SavourX though. Anyone who relies on Nintendo only games is a hypocrite. Oddly though only Nintendo is held up to this bizzaar standard. When there was the PS2 drought, it was all about lack of games. They didn't get on Sony case specificly for it.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

I've got to say, he has balls, cuz we all know that other Nintendo fanboys will rip into him despite Matt being one of them...kinda sad.

You have to understand that Casamassina is essentially the quintessesntial two-faced Nintendo fanboy. He can be their great defender, and also their great detractor. This split personality disorder has been quite apparent since E3 2003, when he kinda went off the deep end after Nintendo's rather lacklustre performance at the event.
