Slim cut manufacturing costs massively! It's nice to see they'll start breaking even on HW soon.

Since the Yen is trading high compared to everything it's simply less bad than their American sales. Not good, just less bad.
Trust me, exchange rates have nothing to do with you and your purcahses. The cost of living/wages, taxes, and the fact that every Euro game needs to be in 5 languages on top of many other factors make it much more expensive to put the product in your hands.
!!! Ignore the next part if you live in one of the poorer European countries.
If you want to trade your free health care for cheaper video games, just move to the US. We'll be happy to let you starve/bleed/dehydrate/freeze to death while you get a substandard education just so your video games can be a little bit cheaper at relative exchange rates. Just keep in mind, though, that a job that on average would pay 10 euros is going to net you maybe, just maybe, ten dollars. Seriously, if you're from the better half of the EU (economically) I'll trade you places any day of the week.
On topic: Good for Sony. They really need it if they want to survive. I don't think they could have afforded to lose on the system for another year, but 2010 looks like it will actually be profitable for them.
You do not have the right to never be offended.
This together with the collapse of PSP sales in the West and the continual decline of the PS2 makes it likely that we won't see a profit from them for quite awhile. It's amazing how much money Sony has lost and continues to lose on the PS3 but hopefully they'll eventually recover, if not next year then maybe the year after that.
The falling PS2 sales probably hurt the most. Every sale on the PS2 is probably high profit since most of those games are old, thus not costing any development.
Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.
Sony no longer collects licensing fees for PS2 games (an attempt to hurt the Wii that has failed) so it's probably no longer the profit generator it once was. The same for the PSP as the PSP Go was a failed attempt to reinvigorate the system. Sony is relying heavily on the PS3 now and the decisions they made in the past will probably continue to haunt them until the end of this generation.
Sounds about right. Stringer said they make a profit on every ps3 sold if sold with a controller and a game, and that jibes with these figures.
thank you Legend, I really don't know what hell this has to do with the thread, but seriously why is it so hard for you guys to deal with anything positive when it comes to Sony?
they were losing 200 plus now it's down to $30, that's good news, right.

I just found it (love the new search feature): http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=17412 Here's their little gem: According to iSuppli, the Wii will reach 30.2 million installed units in 2008, up from 18 million in 2007, thereby placing it ahead of the 25.7 million users the firm projects for Xbox 360 in 2008, and the 20.3 million for the PlayStation 3.
However, iSuppli's projections show the PlayStation 3 ultimately having the largest worldwide install base in 2011, exceeding that of the other two next-gen consoles. According to the firm, the PS3 will see 38.4 million users in 2011, growing significantly from a total of 10.3 million in 2007. Overall, iSuppli says the percentage of the installed base will distribute quite evenly by 2011. The firm says the PlayStation 3 in 2011 will account for 35.4 percent of the installed base (38.4 million), while the Wii will take 34.8 percent (37.7 million) and the Xbox 360 will be at 29.8 percent (32.3 million). Now I remember why these people aren't credible. They constantly daydream of an alternate reality where Sony is much better off and then proceed to prophecize it without any real rhyme or reason. No one can tell them otherwise, not even reality, so when their predictions ultimately don't come true, they either alter them accordingly for the near future for find something else to spin in Sony's favor. They're like a subsidary of the SDF. Even so, that thread spawn such classics as these:
These still make me say ROFFLE! |
ROFLMAO...too funny!
The information at their website is pretty detailed as to the cost breakdown...I'm sure it's pretty accurate, since they are probably most likely pricing the components from the source, but one key thing to remember about the sales for Sony this holiday...they are bundled with titles, and that needs to be figured in the cost model, as it does for 360. Wii isn't bundling games with their base model, other than Wii sports, but it's hard to even consider that as a separate game.
