Take Two revenue for GTA IV, January 05th:

  1. Xbox 360 --> 497 million USD
  2. PS3 --> 413 million USD
  3. PC --> 40 million USD

I doubt Take-Two wants to pass on half a billion USD revenue just for fun.

Of course not, unless they made a deal with Sony

Unless Sony coughed up near half a billion, it's unlikely any such deal was struck.

Maybe they did :P

to be fair Sony just would not have to pay this much, because this is revenue, not profit. Sonys money would be money without any costs. So it would be just like 400 million USD.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

GAME----------------------------------Sales according to VGChartz

-Grand Theft Auto III PS2 ------------11.60M
-Grand Theft Auto Vice City PS2 -----14.20M
-Grand Theft Auto SA PS2 -----------18.08M
-Grand Theft Auto 4 PS3/360 -------13.30M*

*PS3 5.98 / 360 7.32

Now I couldn't care less about GTA Next and were it shows up. I know I will by it have my 10 to 15 hours of fun, and be done. So thats my disclaimer.

Here is my take on this situation if I was the Take Two guy calling the shots. Last gen they proved that they could sell more units being exclusive, than they have this gen being on multiple platforms. The Xbox 360 is holding back the ability to advance the overall game experiance due to its storage format. Previous games have set a standard of being able to start a mission in one part of the map and fly across the whole game world without any pause. To make an experiance that truly tops GTA:SA it would require the 360 version to use more than one disc. Therefore driving up the cost of the physical product, and lowering the quality of the experiance on one or both of the platfoms.

If they stick to just making a PS3 version of the game, they have a lot of advantages.

1. They can eliminate any costs of porting the game to the 360, plus they don't have to bite the bullet on the multi disc charge on 360 games.
2. Without the limitations of the DVD they can expand the game world and content, to make a game well beyond any GTA before.
3. By working exclusivly on one platform, it makes it easier to write more dedicated code, resulting in a better game in every aspect.
4. Sony and Microsoft both give more help to projects that are exclusive to their devices, from concept to marketing this is a big advantage.

Above are just a few advantages. Then you take into consideration that by the end of 2011 PS3 could be as low as $199, and well over 50M units sold, and things don't look that bad. Plus they can always hand the content over to the B team, to make the B version for the 360 a year later, and pick up any sales they miss with the PS3 excluisve launch.

So there's my take. PS3 has lots of momentum now, and announcing GTA5 as a PS3 exclusive would only drive that higher. Take Two can make a better game by focusing on one console, and the PS3 has the most power and storage capability of the two of them. Better game, big exclusive marketing, cheaper PS3, and they should be able to blow past GTA4 without a problem. Then they can come back and pick up the scraps with a 360 port a year later.

Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. you know that if it wasn't released  360 then PS3 GTA 4 revenues would be alot more cause GTA would have made 360 users buy a PS3

Also,even after being PS3's version behind the 360's sales by over 1.5m,both the revenues are not far.This because they get more money from game sales in europe cause games are expensive there and PS3 is populer there too

Only if they want to go bankrupt.

how?

You know how. This is utterly ridiculous.

i would agree if you said they would lose revenue but how the hell would they be bankrupt?

Well, I don't know what agreement they may/may not have for exclusive titles, but I doubt GTA will be exclusive to either PS3 or 360 again this gen. If they have to make PS3 exclusive titles due to contacts they will most likely be either new IP or something separate from main GTA releases.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

In this day and age, one flop can make or break a company - Particularly when we're talking about such a massive franchise as GTA. Releasing it on one console, and the one where their previous game sold worse at that would make their stock go to hell, their revenue would be butchered, and if they had as big of a budget as they did for GTA4 they may not even turn a profit on the game. It would be an absolutely horrible choice and it's about as likely as the next Mario being PS3-exclusive.

THERE IS NO MULTIDISC CHARGE! There never was, and there likely never will be. This is the worst bit of misinformation I have ever seen. I routinely have to correct people on it sadly. If I have to I will once again dig up the relevant links, but anyone who has done this tired old song and dance with me will back me up.

Also, you ignore usebase and time on the market in your comparison. As such it is entirely irrelevant. The PS360 combined has less than half the market of the PS2. The game is also still selling, and might sell well into the next generation. Te entire analysis is based on an extremely faulty, and ill-thought premise. As such I won't waste time disecting it.

What?

Comparing Mario a Nintendo first party games to a third party game that has been  an exclusive before is complete of topic.WTF?

And talking of this day and age,yes a flop can break a company but not Rockstar.One side you are saying its massive and the other side you are talking as if its a small game franchise which if flops will make the company go down.

And how are you talking of flop,you should be saying it didn't sell well not flop.A GTA game is never going to flop,aleast in this Generation.

Also if a big game developer like Rockstar go down,may will come to support it as it is one of the best ever.

And how will their revenue get butchered,360's version of GTA 4 even after selling 1.5 million more than the PS3 version,only had $50m revenue more than PS3's version.If it was exclusive to PS3 then it would have taken alot more revenue as many more people would have bought the PS3 and GTA 4 on it as it is a system seller.

One more thing,the engine's cost's have already been recouped,even if they sold 1m copies of the next GTA.They would have a profit
