Forums - Sales - Why did RE: Darkside Chronicles outsell D. Space: Extraction?

What the length of the two games, and replay value of each?

I think we all heard the DS is better (just go by IGN, or metacritic, etc for what that is worth), but isn't RE:DC longer? (I don't have either and may be remembering wrong).

They are similar in length. About 5-6 hours each max. Thats first playthrough mind-you. RE:DC can skip cutscenes which would take maybe 45 min off repeated playthroughs.

Both have a pretty high replayabuility. RE:DC might take the edge only because it costs so damn much to upgrade weapons vs DS:E. Frankly though I don't see myself replaying it long enough to max everything out. Still there are a lot more collectibles on RE.

Qualitywise Dead Space is the better game, but they are both fairly well reviewed and everybody knows of the RE brand so Extraction got sadly ignored.

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is coming after the previous Resident Evil on rails shooter sold almost 1.5M on the Wii.

I think you're overstating things. Last I'd heard, Capcom had only shipped 1.1 million copies, and the shipment before that had only amounted to 50,000.

In any case, I hazard to guess it's name recognition and better gameplay.

Then VGChartz needs to adjust I guess. I got all my numbers from here.

Capcom       1.30m

A bunch of Capcom titles (on all platforms) are a little high.

You are correct sir! I just checked their site out of curiousity for the latest RE figures:

This site has RE4 on the PS2 at 3.05 million, while Capcom says they've only shipped 2.1 million copies.

According to this site, RE4 on the Wii is at 1.64 million, but only 1.6 million copies were ever shipped.

VGChartz says Umbrella Chronicles sold 1.3 million, but only 1.2 million shipped (which is a 100,000 more than I remembered!).

Well, your numbers are as of March 31st, 2009.

RE4 Wii Edition is spot on right now. RE4 PS2 is grossly overtracked by 775k

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

both are good games...DS is even slightly superior to me. But Resident Evil is a bigger franchise. Why did RE5 sell more than Dead Space on 360/ps3? DS is a better game there as well...

resident evil a established franchise with proven track record on the wii and also was a good game. and the sequel is better in all areas, also i think if dead space extraction for the wii was a horror game like the original dead space and not a on-rails shooter than it might have sold alot better than it did.

I stand corrected then. Thanks for the heads-up!

I LOVE ICELAND!

Wii Fit

To me, the answer is real easy - I know Resident Evil. I like Resident Evil.

Now, I'm not a Wii-only owner, but I am mainly a Wii-gamer. I play my 360 from time to time, but I hardly pick up every big game that hits it. As such, I did not pick up Dead Space - Something many others also avoided doing, going by it's sales numbers. Also, Wii-only owners would not have bought it at all, because, well, they can't play it. Therefore, my incentive to buy a spinoff to a game that I've never played ... Is very low.

Regardless of it's high quality, it's still a spinoff of a practically non-existant franchise. It's like they're trying to get it sold on brandname recognition when the brandname isn't even established.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is nostalgic for many (not for me, though, since I never played the RE-games way back when, my first was RE4 for Wii), and it contains characters that are incredibly popular. Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield - These are pretty big characters in gaming. I have no idea what the name of the main character in Dead Space is... Does he even have a name?

Also, people can be assured that Darkside Chronicles is atleast as good as it's predecessor since, well, it has a predecessor. Plain and simple, people know Resident Evil. People like Resident Evil. If it weren't for me camping gaming-sites, I'd have no idea what the hell Dead Space was.

That's my take on it, anyway.
