Forums - Gaming - How can Sony and Microsoft's motion controllers be more impactful than WM+?

A fair question, don't you think?  I was just reading the "What happened to Wii Motion +" thread and a couple of us remarked that we expect Sony and Microsoft's motion controller optoins to be more widely supported than Nintendo's solution.  I still believe this.  I think that motion enhanced versions of games like Resident Evil 5 or some original properties will be huge successes on the PS3.  I think that Natal will become somewhat of a re-launching of the Xbox 360 with "Wii-Fit" level impact.  But why?

What can Sony and Microsoft do to ensure the success of their (likely) expensive new add-ons?  What's going to keep these innovative devices from becoming HD versions of the Eye-Toy (I know there's an HD version of the Eye-Toy.  Shut up.), Power Pad, or Donkey Konga Bongo Drum?  I want them (including WM+, but its already got its own thread) to succeed.

It's a good question.
MS will have pretty much the first really accurate Yoga game.

Will be interesting to see what kind of buyers remorse comes out of this. (From buying wii fit, if Natals exercise programs perform as expected)

WM+ hasn't really been impactful, looking at the amount of games released that use it.

I think Natal will have a bigger impact, pointing towards the next gen... But it's all about what ever games are available on launch that support either of the "controllers".

Because Flower will have dildo support.

Well, that takes care of Sony!  What about Microsoft?

I figure some of the older games are going to get DLC that adds Natal support or something.

I just don't think Sony's will be used or marketed correctly to have an impact. It's supposed to be launched in the Spring and it doesn't even have a name yet. There's very little hype for it.

Natal might work cause MS will push the adverts behind it and the userbase might support it.

Dear Playstation ads aren't gonna work for a motion controller that has no identity..

Microsoft are far more ambitious with their motion controller. They've already said they intend for Natal to replace the traditional TV remote. So not only will Natal open up gaming to new demographics by removing the barrier of entry (i.e., the intimidating controller with its many scary buttons), but it will do the same for television. A few years from now there will be a TV in nearly every household and we will usher in a new golden age of culture and technology, all thanks to Kudo Tsunoda!

I don't think either will do that well, its too late in the generation to introduce something like this that people on wii have had from the beginning.

Make them cheap.

Bundle them with games people actually want to play.

Bundle them with the system for non-owners.

Encourage developers to make games using them.

Make them easier to use than the Wiimote.

I don't see any reasons why they would be more popular. "updating" the existing games just doesn't look like a working solution and so far no games announced don't look like killer app.

LMAO @Badgenome.
