Forums - Sony - Persona 3 PSP - 10k sales from digital download, 160k retail

We ALL knew that, DD is very unpopular in Japan

Awesome.

But does VGChartz track digital downloads?

This game is only in Japan though where they still sell a lot of umds. I hope someone releases information like this for western countries.

I thought this was a bit interesting...

Atlus reveals P3P has digitally sold 10k so far, and perhaps Media Create data doesn't include it.

And the actual link this info is from: http://www.famitsu.com/blog/p3p/1229728_2045.html

P3P sold 160k at retail.

I thought this was interesting becauase people are always going on about how PSP games could have sold a lot better with PSN sales...and so far this is the only evidence we've got about this matter. Just some food for thought but it doesn't seem like DD sales account for much.

Not only PSP games sold better on PSN, but PS3 games as well.

Truly I think in general people seem to overestimate the power of DD at the early stages of the product lifecycle.

That's actually not bad, considering it's Japan.

@snesboy

no it doesn't

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

not bad considering it's a SMT, port/remake and Japan...

The data is going to be even worse in the west. If you access the PSN store, it'll check your firmware, and update it if necessary. Since piracy is such a problem, people aren't going to buy the game, they're going to steal it.

Well this indicates that downloads is a small factor in Japan when it comes to sales. So what we possibly can take away from this is that the retail software numbers for PSP games are still relevant in Japan since the downloadnumbers are so small that they do not make a big difference.
