Forums - Nintendo - Malstrom: The industry's hostility against Nintendo

^People is slowly waking up about Wii's potential technology. I saw Nintendo make miracles with Super Mario Galaxy on graphics.

Nintendo defines the way of being the best among all videogame publishers. Although the Wii is a weaker technology than the PS3/360, it really proves that all is about gameplay. Wii is still leading the market, remember...

And third editors are doing really good stuff for 2010: No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, Tales of Grace, Epic Mickey and so on...

Still Nintendo can live up his own console by itself. Their games are selling 3x a game on a PS360. And for those who think the wind's changing, I'm not sure... Wii sales come up about 600 000 against 250 000 of PS3. The Wii is actually selling better than the DS.

GTA4 cost over $100 million to produce, I know that for a fact.

I believe the figure thrown around for MGS4 was $40 million. But back in the PS2 days, an MGS probably never ventured past $25m. The first MGS on the PS1 cost $8m to advertise.

Moder Warefare 2 costs $200 million, and I would be surprised if it would outsell GTA IV on the long run.

I think he's right overall. Especially when we see 'professional' game developers taking time out to take jabs at other consoles "I made this game for the PS3, because the 360 can't handle it!" and so on. Nintendo seems to get the brunt of it, and third party developers have long jumped ship. By some miracle, Nintendo has forced them to look their way again. And while I'm not that happy with the games they develop for Wii, I do love the fact these third parties had to bring themselves back to the table. But this guy is right, Wii HD won't help. They're looking for any reason NOT to develop for Nintendo.

As for Sega, I disagree. If memory serves, there was strong third party support for Dreamcast. And sales were pretty decent. Didn't they sell 10 million consoles in its short lifespan? Some big hitters pulled support, and waited to launch with PS3, but I think the sales were very respectable. But it was too little too late. As someone said, Sega at their height had more ballz than business sense. Dreamcast was almost destined to fail, for they were too far in the hole to start.

That was the marketing. The development cost was just 40-50. But that's still a hell of a lot compared to Mario Galaxy and Red Steel.

Wait, what?

How could Activision spend $150 million on advertising?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I'm pretty sure that the other well known production costs (above), also included marketing.

I don't know, but this is exactly what they said.

One of his better articles in a while. It is and has always been suspicious always hearing analysts and publishers alike talking about Wii HD. I don't think I've ever seen a market leader who is still number one in console sales by a large margin over its competitors almost brow beat into doing something as nonsensical as to cut off their fanbase simply to upgrade visual quality? That doesn't seem to matter to the majority of Wii owners.

Main big name franchises would and DO sell great on Wii. That's just industry talk. A flop on Wii is Wii's audience fault a flop on the other consoles is because the game just wasn't any good. I'd love to see how well a spin off dead space rail shooter would sell on an HD console. I'm so glad NMH is coming to HD consoles I'm leaning toward it being a GTA:CW situation all over again.

The reason NMH wont sell well on HD is because, besides its a year old port, compared to games like GOW3, Ninja Gaiden, or even DMC4 its not good, the same reason GTA CTW failed on psp, they made the wrong desission from the beggining since a 3d GTA on psp wouldve sold great.

I agree with you its not Nintendos fault, its the developers who fool themselves blaming nintendo and thinking some of their cheap games needed to sell on wii because they thought it was the only mature stuff there and now think the HD console userbase is going to buy their games and ignore that HD users have many other better games to choose from.

OT: I think this Nintendo vs the whole industry thing is just bitterness from some fans that would want every 3rd party big game on the console, Nintendo made their new and innovative console and they have made great games and a great profit from it, they have to face some consecuences from it, good and bad.

Now, you people as consumers, if you want big 3rd party games you should get a ps3 or a 360 and stop whining, most of you should be happy from getting nintendo games, and if the product doesnt give you all you want, get another one that will stisfy those needs.

That argument didn't make the HD systems sell better even before the recession. It's just plain delusional now.

I meant to say that if people wanted games that are on ps360 they should get it on those consoles and stop whining  because they are not on wii.

My brother has a 360, so I can play those games anyway. I just say some should be on the Wii on principle.
