Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Malstrom: The industry's hostility against Nintendo

The reason they would want them out is that Nintendo doesn't rely on third parties. The other first parties do. The competition claim is just BS. It's about feeling important. They made Sony king the last two times, and no matter how much they tried with the PSP, PS3, and 360, they can't do it this time.

the thing it's they games are selling pretty well, MGS4 even sold more than MGS3-

and both ps3 and 360 are selling beast look at GTA4 and MW2 sales.

That's not what I wrote. It's not about selling games. It's selling hardware.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I don't agree with his thoughts on Sega, but I never realized the situation he outlined in his first 2 paragraphs.

Nintendo would be abandoned AGAIN even if they released a Wii HD. The GC was on par with the Xbox1 last gen in hardware numbers but received less than ~675 games in support, while the XB1 got ~950.

Now, Nintendo has over 1,000 games in the Wii library. A lot of them stink, but support is support. They just have to continue what they are doing, because it is working in their favor. Just look at the million sellers. Several more are coming before 2009 ends.

MGS4 barely outsold MGS3, and it likely cost more to produce than MGS1-3 combined.  GTA4's undersold all the last gen GTAs and it was also orders of magnitide more costly in terms of production.

Basically, even the biggest franchises are only hitting their series lowpoints from last gen (at best), but their costs have multiplied.  That's not really a sustainable industry progression, which is why developers (and even some publishers) seem to be dropping like flies this gen.  HD is just too expensive with not enough retrun for most.

If Nintendo's next console were to solely put out First and second party games I'd still buy it. I pretty much have only Nintendo games for my wii. With the userbase the wii has now Nintendo's next console will sell regardless of 3rd parties support.

Games like carnival games will still be developed for it as casuals have already associated Nintendo with clean fun games for the family.

It did outsell the PSP GTAs, but those were more or less expansion packs to III and Vice City.

Should also add Take Two posted losses that quarter despite all the money GTA IV made.

That's just incredible.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

yes but did they make moe then sony back then?? i highly doubt it^^

Ugh, can't get the damn table to work. Just click here to see the profits. The pic showing the company names are dead, so the order is:

Sony, Nintendo, Sega, Microsoft

Nintendo still made a decent profit on their N64 and GC, though they really made tons on the handhelds. Sony's profits never get quite as obscene as Nintendo's (look at that 2009), mainly because they take losses on hardware sales, and don't sell nearly as much software.

That's unbelievable. Even though Sony dominated Nintendo for about 10 years in hardware sales and 3rd party support, they only made more money than Nintendo for ONE YEAR.

And this only again proves that 1992 was the best year ever, because that was the first time Nintendo made over 1 billion Yen in a Fiscal Year.

Screw the game industry, Nintendo does what it wants!

GTA4 cost over $100 million to produce, I know that for a fact.

I believe the figure thrown around for MGS4 was $40 million. But back in the PS2 days, an MGS probably never ventured past $25m. The first MGS on the PS1 cost $8m to advertise.
