The Wii doesn't need HD resoultion, it needs non-lazy developers to dev for it.

Look at the Condult, an Excellent looking game.

IF COMPARED TO THE PS2 OR ORIGINAL XBOX.  Do you think The Conduit holds up to any PS3 or 360 top of the line FPS, outside of maybe Halo?

Does any PS3 or XBox 360 game stand up against what is possible on a $2500+ PC today? Are you rushing out to buy a $2500+ PC?

" Matt Peckham " has just enough knowledge to not know the difference. He has enough knowledge to know the elements in play, but clearly lacks the higher knowledge on the details of technical requirements involved. Distant LOS is really important, but there a massive number of techniques out there that can do LOD outside of the basic vertex reduction and Mipmapping. Priority object, scaling FPS, billboard modeling are just a few that rarely sees use. Especially Billboard modeling, I have never seen that one used outside tech demos.

From personal game play experience over the last 20 years a very FAR terrain is doable. Even in city environments.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Here are two semi-contradictory opinions that I have.

1) I do often cringe when I see some of my Wii games. We've gotten used to better. Even SMG didn't impress me at all graphically- It seemed like ALL the poly's were used on the characters and water effects and none on the environment.

2) Look at Metroid Prime 3. LOOK AT IT. It's f*@(!NG beautiful. Now why don't the lazy ass 3rd party devs do something like that!? If all the Wii games were like MP3 then threads like this wouldn't exist. I don't know what went wrong with the Wii, but it's a little sad to me that there are only a handful of fantastic games to play at this stage.

It's a shame you think that. I've enjoyed my Wii more than any other console or computer I have ever owned. Metroid Prime's desisgn is awesome though, I agree.

I do actually agree with you. Wii is #2 for me right after GCube. Still, every console has some weaknesses, like the GCube it didn't have some genres I like.

Bad analogy is bad.

The difference is that the Xbox and PS3 can handle most of the titles being played on that 2500 PC , albiet at a lesser quality. The editor is trying to say that some games flat out cannot be made on the Wii.

Or maybe this is another Wii hate conspiracy, though it is getting tiring and slightly annoying that Wii fans insist that these are unfair criticisms made at their system. The Wii has an install base of 50 million +, do you really think a developer is going to avoid making games for it based on semantics?

I do find that very contradictory.  Seeing as much of  Metroid Prime 3 is running off of the Metroid Prime engine (from GameCube) while Mario Galaxy was completely developed from the ground up for the Wii.  Perhaps your views stem from your opinion of graphics design and art direction and not from the actual graphical power of the Wii?

Though I agree, the amount of third party developers who have actually tried to utilize the Wiis true graphical power can be counted on one hand.

Forget about the engines. Would you say SMG looks better than MP3? Here's some quotes from Wikipedia: ' 1UP.com was enthusiastic about the new control system and said the graphics were "some of the best visuals in gaming, period".' and ' IGN awarded the game an Editor's Choice Award, and noted that the game was beautifully designed and the best looking game for the Wii 'My point is that Wii games are often ugly, but MP3 proves they can be beautiful. I shouldn't have brough Mario into this, sorry.

^^ Damnit I swear I left a space this time!!!

Oh the whiners. They should learn to accept what's happening.

Besides, if the guy is a PC gamer, he should be happy for Wii blowing some life to PC gaming, where the publishers are taking PC as a part of their multiplatform strategy when trying to avoid Wii development.

@Bardicverse: Announcement comes summer 2011 earliest.

Teller of truth, then why hasn't an AC port been made  yet? Hint : The answer is in the article

@Dorbin: What HS said fits what you said aswell.

The difference in performance between the HD consoles and high-end PC at the moment is likely bigger than the difference between Wii and HD consoles.

The reasons for "the same games" running on HD systems are:
1. The game is a port from years old game.
2. The game is designed HD consoles in mind.
3. The game have been downgraded enough, so that they run on the HD consoles.

In the cases "2" and "3", Wii version of the game is just as possible as a HD version (even "1", but you have to port even older game).
