What is the difference between the DS and Wii version, apart from the fact that you can play it as a local co-op of 4 people?
They should've really added some map editor, I mean come on, it's not like it would be hard to make levels with this simple graphic and game mechanism. If NSMBWii come before Little Big Planet, I could forgive that, but it's almost 2010 and the game is like 3 years late.
MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising
@ aragod
its the different levels/suits? did you actually think that the wii version was a port of the DS one? also how is it 3 years late?

| dunno001 said: My leaning is top and bottom 10%, which I mentioned. On a game with 50 reviews, it cuts out the top 5 and the bottom 5. I'm not sure if that's too many, but I really wouldn't raise the percentage any higher. I've toyed around in my head with it being 5%, but that doesn't feel like it's enough. I am rather adamant on it not being a fixed number irrelevant to the review count, though. ... |
Wouldn't work, and would flatten even more the metacritic scores upward, giving even less actual range... and we all know that it's ridiculously small for games when compared to e.g. movies.
Since all scores are upward capped at 100, a game that floats around 80-90 of metacritic scores will usually raise sharply as the top 10% are generally way less distant from the average than the lowest 10% (even most excellent games will have a small number of 60-70 scores, or even 50 ones). Result: even more flattening into the 85-95 range.
The trouble right now is the exact opposite: the reviewing community is usually so incredibly homogeneous in its evaluation that we got people going into rage mode against outliers such as Edge, tantrums being thrown about a 2% score difference, or phenomena such as the incredible inflation of review scores. A more varied reviewing community is a healthier one, and Metacritic should not curb the variety.

Lol so true
Edge reminds me a lot of what I see a lot in UK discussions regarding the Wii
-- old things are not as good as new things -- when discussing technology.
Many a UK pub -- seem to me at least -- have bashed the Wii solely because it uses older technology. This type of review appears to be in that same vein.

That they're entirely different games?

Okay.
| EL_PATRAS said: pretty harsh review from edge. Are they butthurt or something? |
The Edge is always butthurt. Using them as a source for reviews is like using World Weekly News for accurate truthful stories.
Good reviews. Mostly what I expected.
Gamespot actually had a better review than IGN. At least they listed viable reasons for why they docked the score. IGN basically docked it because it didn't go online. *sigh*
Add 5 points to the final meta score for obvious Wii bias in the gaming media.
