Wouldn't work, and would flatten even more the metacritic scores upward, giving even less actual range... and we all know that it's ridiculously small for games when compared to e.g. movies.

Since all scores are upward capped at 100, a game that floats around 80-90 of metacritic scores will usually raise sharply as the top 10% are generally way less distant from the average than the lowest 10% (even most excellent games will have a small number of 60-70 scores, or even 50 ones). Result: even more flattening into the 85-95 range.

The trouble right now is the exact opposite: the reviewing community is usually so incredibly homogeneous in its evaluation that we got people going into rage mode against outliers such as Edge, tantrums being thrown about a 2% score difference, or phenomena such as the incredible inflation of review scores. A more varied reviewing community is a healthier one, and Metacritic should not curb the variety.
