^It won't be a $300 system vs. a $100 system, the next Nintendo console won't be over $250, Iwata isn't stupid, he knows people won't be as interested in a system at that price, and the Wii is no where near $100 and won't be for a good long while, why price cut when its still selling this well.
Virtual console and the BW compatibility with the GCN was a positive reason to buy a Wii, why would Nintendo abandon that? If the casual games are playable on the new system, for only $50 more, why would they buy a Wii? And do you really think Nintendo can support two consoles fully, they don't have the teams.
Then you'd be hurting the new system, think about it, the Wii was a success because of the expanded market, why would they try and exclude them from the new console and lose that success.
NATAl won't be a success, they don't have the software to challenge the Wii, and yeah Nintendo can ignore them for a year or two, they ignored them with the 360, they launched a year later, they can do that again.
Delaying the inevitable is enough to give Nintendo market dominance and you really think Nintendo doesn't have something up their sleeve, look at the vitality sensor.
Momentum is a ridiculous concept, there's no momentum across generations, you need to come out with the system that appeal the most, and Nintendo can do that by disrupting the market again and they can launch last to do that.
No they won't steal momentum, because they can't disrupt the market like Nintendo can.
No it won't kill the Wii, because NATAL won't have the software to challenge the Wii.
No it won't they'll want to develop for the new system with its higher graphics
No it won't Nintendo can always disrupt the market like with the Wii and crush Sony and MS
Wrong if they launch first the Wii will die and their competitors will copy and release competing systems which will kill Nintendo's new system before it can gain dominance.
Yes Wii would stop selling because software would stop coming Nintendo can't support two consoles
Your arguments only prove why the new Wii system won't come in 2011, your arguments don't take into account how the market works or how Nintendo works or how Sony and MS work

Lets start with backwards compatability. Yes it was definatly a selling factor. But if as you say Nintendo plans to revolutionalize the industry again and provide yet another new way to play games. How will the next console be backwards compatable with the Wii/GameCube? Wouldn't this new control scheme make support of the past systems non-existant? You can't assume because Nintendo did it a single time that Nintendo is going to do it again next Gen.
Continueing to sell the Wii would not hurt the new system. It would simply continue expanding the market and people who bought the Wii early on will adapt to the new platform. Meaning no damage done to the new platform? Did the PS2 hurt the Wii?
Natal if launched with every new X-Box or as the new control scheme for the NexBox will have the software support. If Microsoft throws its first party weight behind it, as we know they are (Fable3 already confirmed) then we can expect Natal to challenge the Wii and any new Microsoft platform incorporating Natal will have the capability of competing and stealing marketshare from the Wii.
Delaying the inevitable will not give Nintendo greater marketshare, it will hurt their chances to compete. The later the console comes the harder it is to compete. Just look at the GameCube/X-Box or how about the PS3. The consoles that launch later suffer from a lack of software (Even Wii suffers from a lack of solid AAA+ software). If Nintendo jumps and launches competitively with the competition then we can expect them to do well again next generation.; Capture and hold the marketshare.
Of course Nintendo has something up their sleeves. Thats what I'm talking about I can confirm right now that IBM is already working on the next Nintendo's proccessor. Nintendo is already well underway in developing their next platform. That is what they have up their sleeves for 2011. Vitality Sensor will help the Wii in 2010, 2011 is a whole new year and Nintendo will need a new platform.
No momentum across generations? are you nuts just look at the NES to Super Nintendo or the PlayStation to PlayStation 2. Both times the hardware manufacturer used the momentum of their last console to sell their new console. Using brand recognition made the SNES and PS2 so successful. Without brand recognition and momentum Genesis would have killed the SNES and DreamCast would have killed the PS2. It was the success of the origional PlayStation that killed the DreamCast after all. Thats the perfect example, Sega had no momentum and because they lacked momentum they failed and went down. Momentum plays a huge role in selling hardware.
How do you figure Nintendo is the only company that can disrupt the market? Microsoft with Natal can easily disrupt the market. Nintendo was simply the first company to do so. The first console since the NES to disrupt the market. How about Sony's PSP did that not disrupt the market? up untill then Nintendo ruled the handheld generation after generation never letting a competitor gain a steady user base. But suddenly Sony owns over 30% of the market! They disrupted the market and I'm sure given the chance Microsoft's Natal can definatly disrupt the market especially if it comes bundled with every NexBox.
As I pointed out earlier developers are jumping all over Natal. Microsoft has already shipped dev kits to dozens of developers, maybe even closing in on 100. We know EA and Activision plan to support it and so does Microsoft Games Studios (Duh) and that software alone will be enough to challenge the Wii. Think a second UbiSoft,EAGames,Activision all supporting Natal with exclusives, if that isn't a software threat to Nintendo I don't know what is. Its expected that Natal will launch with nearly 20 titles or so Microsoft said after E3. 20 titles at launch is more then any prior system. If it launches with NexBox in fall 2010 then it will have all the software support needed to steal marketshare from Nintendo.
Developers won't want to develope for the Wii because they'll want to develope games for the better graphics? Dude thats insaine, then why the heck are developers supporting the Wii in the first place? Or how about the PS2, dozens of games released every couple months almost 5 years into the new generation. Developers develop games to turn a profit and to support an installed base. Only a few developers AKA InfinityWard,Factor5 actually don't develope on consoles with inferior graphics. Also if the next Microsoft system or Sony system comes out with far superior graphics to the PS3/360 then wouldn't the Wii loose all its support to the better graphics of the competition?
Nintendo can't support more then two consoles? Nintendo themselves made the three pillar announcement with the DS. That Nintendo was going to support all three platforms (DS/GameCube/GBA) and they did for almost 3 years. Today titles are still coming to GBA (Albeit in smaller numbers). Nintendo doesn't need to support the Wii after the next platform comes out, third parties will keep it afloat just look at the PS2 Sony barely supports the platform its been around for nearly ten years. Are you saying Sony can keep three platforms alive but Nintendo can't?
Avinash, I am basing all my knowledge on my uncle who works at IBM on Nintendo's processors and of course the marketing successes and how Microsoft and Sony work. You seem to be a blinded fanboy. I disprove every statement you made above and could keep argueing with you for another decade.
I don't get how you think you know more about how Nintendo , Microsoft and Sony work then I do? I have family in the games industry in Seattle and Redmond. I have family in the computer industry as well. I was raised playing games and to date I have industry contacts within Activision, Koei, Sony , Nintendo Of America, Microsoft Game Studios, Tecmo and much more. Infact I've worked as a video game jouranlist for two newspapers and two websites. Also Microsoft just put an add out for developers ready to work on the line-up for the Next X-Box. If development of launch titles is already underway who can doubt that Microsoft's next console either launches next fall or 2011. If Microsoft launches Nintendo will have no choice but to follow (By your own logic)
So how exactly do you know more about how the industry works then I do? Do you work for Nintendo themselves? No you don't. Do you work for VGChartz? No you don't. If anything you are as knowledgable as me in which case we can debate game sales stats and hardware stats all we wants.
Infact tell you what I am so sure that the next Nintendo console will be shown during 2011 that I am willing to bet every VG$ I have now or then. I am that positive it is coming in 2011!
