They won't do it because it would make more sense, and have less R&D to just use the new specs for the next console. The DSi didn't change the specs other than the RAM, and that was to accommodate the DSiWare and camera, while the graphics remain the same.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
