Any reason why they can't release a game on a nonPS console?

are they First party? Second party?

Nothing but their relationship with Sony. They could start work on a 360-Wii multiplat tomorrow.

You mean business relationship. Which would be an exclusive one.

No business relationship. Just a 15 year friendship.

Funny.

Look for sony to fund any and all new IPs from them so this would not happen.

What's funny? Insomniac mentions in the article about the great relationship the two companies hold.

Sony own the ip's and fund the games, marketing etc. They likely at the mo have a 3 game deal with Sony or something like that. They're not PS3 exclusive out the goodness of there heart, they're basically a 3rd party developer making 1st party games for Sony. Much like Media Molecule, Quantric dream, Sucker Punch etc.

Same as Bungie. They are independent now. Does it mean they will stop making Halo and make games for other platforms. Maybe, but not in the near future.

BAH!  You beat me to the Bungie comparison, you scene stealer!!!

I love Insomniac but cannot afford a PS3 now or anytime soon (and don't give me that "it's only $299!" crap unless you want to 'only' buy me one).  I sure wish I could enjoy Insomniac games like in times past (last gen was ... wonderfully affordable).

would be ncie to see what they could do on other platforms, no sense lettign quality devs ONLY produce for 1 system

Sony doesn't own HEAVY RAIN, so not really Quantic Dream. Beyond that, Insomniac has a different relationship with Sony than any of those developers do.

Believe what you want.

I can't see Insomniac going anywhere soon. I mean they built IP's for Sony , strong IP's that I can't see them abandoning. Resistance alone as an IP has shipped more then 5-million units, then theirs Ratchet with a lifetime of over 13.5 Million copies shipped. These two franchises are among the strongest in Sony's library and Insomniac is well taken care of to keep them going.

So why would Insomniac leave even temporarily (For a single title or two)? I think Microsoft could invest in taking them over as they did Rare. However unlike Rare, Insomniac doesn't have any good self owned IP's that would be aquired in the merger. Then just like Rare all the devoted Sony fan staff would bail leaving Microsoft or Nintendo with just a shell of a company (Consisting of virtually just the name).

In the end when Insomniac's IP's begin to bottom out and Sony is no longer such a supportive publisher then we will see an Insomniac published title hitting the NextBox and WiiHD. But sales right now are stong enough on Sony's platform to prevent them from leaving!
