Factor 5 finished Pilotwings, Nintendo publishing it questionable?

Monday, November 2, 2009

Rumor: From what ex-Factor 5 employees say, they were not only working on Pilotwings, but completely finished with the title.

A mysterious blogger has posted an article that he/she says was written with ex-Factor 5 employees. The posting tells why Factor 5 hit trouble, and what titles they were actually working on. Factor 5 was indeed working on Pilotwings from what was written, but also a new Star Wars Rogue Squadron, and a Wii port of Brutal Legend. The last two were scrapped while the blogger states that Factor 5 Pilotwings had “been finished.”

Rumor: Assets seen earlier in the year were for Pilotwings

The rumored assets that were uncovered earlier in the year were actually assets for Pilotwings. CEO Achim Moller of Factor 5 GmbH suggests that he is “unsure whether both of these titles will see a release, suggesting that Nintendo ... are not confident on publishing their Factor 5-developed game.”[1]

Was the quality not up to Nintendo standards? Is this true at all?

Whether the rumor is true or not, this article is the best information we have about what might have happened to the Wii games produced by Factor 5. Unfortunately, Wii owners might have to wait longer than we think for the Pilotwings we all want.

Damn Nintendo for outsourcing franchises...they did it with Star Fox, now Pilotwings..any other?

The best Star Fox games were, voila, developed by one of Nintendo´s internal teams...look at the results when they started outsourcing.

There may be some game(s) they outsourced that turned out ok or great and I´m not aware of, but the way I see it is 1st party titles should never be outsourced, at least not if the original title was quite good and acclaimed (like SF and Pilotwings for the SNES), but hey what do I know right?

F-Zero GX turned out pretty damn well.

@ Jgarret

The outsourced Starfox Adventures for the Gamecube was brilliant.

Not sure that counts since it was developed by Rare, who were owned by Nintendo at the time.

Personally, I didn't think Star Fox Adventures was anything to brag about anyway, it was okay I guess. But I did like Star Fox: Assault quite a bit.

if nintendo doesnt publish it then it would be a waste :(

Heard about this on GAF last week I think.. Nothing new, Nintendo cancels games all the time if they don't think it's of a high enough quality.

If it's not good enough to publish, then why would Nintendo publish it?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Nintendo has to outsource games in order to keep up. They are much much smaller than Sony and even with outsourcing games it will be difficult to keep with Sony now theve got theve got geared up. just this gen weve had many great outsourced game sincluding punchout and batallion wars 2.

With pilotwings, it seems nintendo dropped out beforehand in case factor 5 used nintendo's money to pay off their debts instea dof development. pilotwings is being turned into a new IP for a new publisher. However i believe that RS4 is still coming and that Lucasarts are still the publisher

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind

proud soldier of nintopia

Pilotwings was outsourced from outset of the series.
