Depends on the contract that sky have with MS. Hopefully not.

I took 'bombed' as meaning it was either a huge financial or critical failure.
You're simply offering personal opinion and anecdotes though. I was hoping for some actual strong evidence. The launch in other countires coupled with HD upgrades would, in my opinion, indicate that the product has met with at least moderate retail success.

I know 4 people that have PlayTV, not saying it's a success but it has never been marketed, which is rather typical of Sony really (bit like the PSP-PS3 capabilities they never advertise).
| kowenicki said: @darth well you can have a 360 or ps3 anywhere... you have to have a skybox wired to the dish. so basically... less wiring and convenience. |
So, if I was a Sky subscriber, and I owned a 360 (or perhaps, in the future, a PS3), then I would be able to use the console as a regular set top box? I'm not exactly sure how that would work.

you plug it in... connect to the internet and you have a set top box. its tv streamed via the internet. why dont you get it? |
So you don't need a Sky subscription?
Let me rephrase: If I had a Sky subscription (I do), would I need to pay extra to get Sky Player on the console? And if I didn't, could I still use the console as a set top box? Would it be free?

@kowen: people can't see how good this would be. For people in flats, student halls (like me last year) or want to watch sky somewhere else in their house.
Sky could make a killing off this.

For it to be free you either need A) Sky Multiroom B) Sky Unlimited Broadband. That's regards to Live TV, On-Demand stuff is free to Sky subscribers. Why don't you check out the Sky Player website. It's all on there.

Looking at the website now.
So, it's like iPlayer, but with Sky channels? Pretty nifty, I'll admit I didn't know this existed O_O
i would prefere to get virgin media as i like there on demand services but that would compete with vidzone for music and bbc iplayer is already on the ps3 so that would be put in the v media area

Yes. Microsoft are using things such as netflix, sky etc to justify charging for online. Sony just keep taking away those reasons. If the PS3 gets cross game chat etc the pressure will really crank up on MS. |
Yes because this thread was really about live. Wow. Live had nothing to do with this thread. The amount of subscribers live has justifys the price.
