Forums - Nintendo - Morgan Webb: Mario Galaxy 'aimed so much for kids'

See now I can agree that SMG can seem aimed at kids because of the colorful aeshetic, PG humor, and when things die they just turn into coins (I believe, haven't played it in a long time, and only briefly) but I disagree with the idea that R&C is different in this regards. It's exactly the same in those three areas except stuff explodes into bolts when killed.

Colorful platformers can easily come across as aimed at children simply because they aren't specifically aimed at adults in any particular way.

Clearly meant to engage adults on their level.

Omg, that is so childish. I can never enjoy SMG again. It's insulting to me.

Unfortunately MANY people think this is true

At my school when I told a few people that I LOVED SMG & it was an amazing game.....they laughed at me n said its for kids!

These people were COD/GTA whores!

highschool?

There is a period most people go through from 12-17 where they get the impression that they are "better" than everyone else and nothing at all can happen to them, they think they are no longer kids and will avoid anything that has "childish" themes, they want to do "the mature" stuff.

In California, this is typically the period where kids stop going to Disneyland and go to six flags, and start watching more adult oriented shows. After 17, they get over it, will start going to Disneyland again, and start watching / playing anything that is fun.

Some unfortunate people never progress past this stage and grow into the hardcore 20+ fanboy snobs, but this is a very rare occurence, most people over 17 are sensible enough to not bring themselves down to such a low level. I'd say about 1 in 5 people skip the "stupid" stage altogether.

-100 Respect Points for Morgan Webb.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Hm, maybe the game was to hard for her?

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Heh, it's expected now, not really sure what happened, but Ratchet and Clank has always been her favorite platformer series so more or less its her bias, the swipe at Mario though? Eh it's just her conforming to her G4 peers, they acted like the DS was under them too. I remember watching AOTS and Kevin was talking about how awesome the PSP is and how it was going to stomp the DS and did it for nearly 2 years until the claim became futile, but the statement was reverberated with many of the G4 shows, again until it became futile.

With games the claim doesn't last as long and just pisses people off for that instance. So this will blow over but honestly Morgan was likely just over zealous about her favorite action platformer series. Man I miss the days when she was geeky looking on the screen savers...

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

This is a pretty ridiculous statement. I can see that argument being applied to the old 2D Mario games because the main purpose of every level was to get from the left side of the screen to the right side. The goals of the SMG levels are much more complex and varied. They are not always obvious.

Aimed at kids: yes. Insulting for adults: no. Amazing game for all ages: yes.

She is probably offended by Mickey Mouse, The Cat in the Hat, and hey, probably kids in general.

They should all just grow up and start acting like adults.

Aye aye Captian Hook.
