Sorry for bad fonetics but in Poland we use our own fonetics for writting russian (well it makes no sense to learn english/multinational fonetics when you can spell ж, ш and other like this perfectly).

 And back on topic:

Watashi wa zlejedi desu.

Ehh i started learning around a month ago and at the moment I'm trying to remember all the hiragana.

But so far it's quite easy language just wish i had more time as it's mostly memory challange. And funny thing I've heard that people try to avoid anime nerds in japanise classes but we got whole group of nerds

I really wish there was a special pill to make it all instantly be put into the head. I love to speak Japanese but I loathe their writing system. TT_TT

I don't want to give up but at the same time I can't put my mind around it.

On the people who invented the kanji not thinking about making it easier, it did make things a lot easier. For China. A phonetic writing system was unthinkable at that time, people from two parts of the country didn't understand each other talking, so the ideograms did the job.

@Zlejedi, I used to hear that all the time, they will hate at the uni if you watch anime and study Japanese... but my course has like 50% anime or manga (or both) fans, one JRPG fan (apart from me) and some of the senpai we've talked to also like it.

On a sidenote starting today I know that it's 韓国語がぜんぜんわかりません。 (since I had written it with を earlier in the thread).

Don't worry, lolita, we all feel the same. I mean, I know some 200ish kanji, and I'm proud of it, but at the same time, I wish that the writing system would be easier. What Akvod said is true in a sense, there are related kanjis that use all the same radical, like

浴びる = to shower
海 = ocean
泳ぐ = to swim

They all use the same radical, which means water, which makes sense

But for every kanji that does make sense, there are sadly two that don't, and that's the hard part, at least for me

Well I think the problem with schools is that they rush things.

Start reading some RAW shonen mangas. They'll have furiganas and you''ll encounter easy kanji. It's just using them or being exposed to them all the time that's necessary, not just memorizing 20 kanjis per week or something.

I think I have pretty much all the easy kanji that are somewhat common memorized, I searched all the vocabulary in my textbook plus searched in Wakan for every kanji I could learn without much hassle to get it already out of the way.

Still, I haven't tried to learn new kanji for some time, I lost the habit. I'm not as passionate for Japanese as I once was. Heck, I don't think I'll even take JP classes next semester

Ok, I'm giving up on teaching O.o It's too hard trying to make rules for grammar when it's internalized >.< Sorry, if I let anyone down.

For people already proficient in Japanese, feel free to start an actual conversation. If you guys even want, you guys can even voice chat with me (umm... I guess with Steam (Akvod) or Ventrillo?) if you want to practice speaking.

I guess I'll bring up a generic topic:

あなたが一番好きな日本食は何ですか?どうして好きですか?いつか食べたい物ありますか?

Proud of 200sh kanji, eh?

I'm probably down to 100, and as time passes... it's only going down. Stopped taking classes (after slightly over a year) only recently, when things started to get painful (something like 20 kanji a week, on top of grammar stuff). Learning languages really sucks, I'm simply awful at it. Memorizing = no go, I can only do stuff like math. I had to withdraw when it was clear I was the worst in the class (which was fun to joke about, until the reality of grades kick in).

Yeah, as much as I love 日本語, it's probably impossible. I can't speak to those fluent anyway (fear of embarrassment, I refuse to sound like a 'noob' unless it's in class).  A while ago, when I visited Tokyo for a few days, I never spoke a word. I just want to understand the damn language for games, manga, other media, etc!

O.o most people complain when people compliment them on their Japanese. We understand how hard the language is, and we genuinely think it's admirable for someone to be proficient enough to speak. Don't be embarassed for not being able to fluently speak a language you shouldn't even have to know. Japanese people get made fun of their own English constantly XD
