Proud of 200sh kanji, eh?

I'm probably down to 100, and as time passes... it's only going down. Stopped taking classes (after slightly over a year) only recently, when things started to get painful (something like 20 kanji a week, on top of grammar stuff). Learning languages really sucks, I'm simply awful at it. Memorizing = no go, I can only do stuff like math. I had to withdraw when it was clear I was the worst in the class (which was fun to joke about, until the reality of grades kick in).

Yeah, as much as I love 日本語, it's probably impossible. I can't speak to those fluent anyway (fear of embarrassment, I refuse to sound like a 'noob' unless it's in class).  A while ago, when I visited Tokyo for a few days, I never spoke a word. I just want to understand the damn language for games, manga, other media, etc!

O.o most people complain when people compliment them on their Japanese. We understand how hard the language is, and we genuinely think it's admirable for someone to be proficient enough to speak. Don't be embarassed for not being able to fluently speak a language you shouldn't even have to know. Japanese people get made fun of their own English constantly XD
