I'll join.

It's funny that a lot of people ran to the PS1 to play FF7 and FF8. I bought them on my computer and they looked great, much better than PS1.

N64 had Mario 64 before 3D platformers were good. N64 had Goldeneye before console FPS games were good. Plus, they had Ocarina of time which has been considered one of the best games of all time for a while now. They also had Manjora's mask, which I thought was as good as OOT, but with its own twist.

Harvest moon 64 was better on the N64 even though it was almost identical to the PS1 version. Why? Long loading times on the PS1; A problem inherent with its disk based format.

We also can't forget: Star Fox 64, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie (and Tooie), Paper Mario 64 of which I don't think there are games on the PS1 that compare.

You also can't forget how flimsy the PS1 was. You could scratch the disks by looking at them too hard. The PS1 had a hard time correcting even some of the minor scratches. You could freeeze the console by touching the disk cover, or walking to heavily near it. I remember my friends N64; He dropped it down the stairs 3 times and it still works. I dropped a fouton beam on that same console from 15 FT. and took a chunk out of the casing and it still works. I think you could play football with it.

The PS1 sold more than the N64. It's just proof that most consumers don't know good gaming when they see it.

That same logic could be applied to the 360 and PS3 this gen.

lol, good comeback.  I think, however, there are different circumstances this generation.

You have my steel J-man, you have my steel.

Also, there is not nearly enough discussion on the merits of Rouge Squadron in this thread, best get to work on that gentlemen.

What... people think to the contrary. I thought it was grounded in fact that N64 was superior haha.

Oh jk. For me I really couldn't say one way or another because I never owned a PS1. So would be hard for me to discern what is better. But I will say that N64 was quite a machine with just an incredible amount of solid great games. Titles such as Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Rogue Squadron, Perfect Dark, Mario Party, etc etc etc etc really helped to define a generation of gamers and brought many loads of hours of joy. I know it did for me. Still love that thing. Got it sitting right next to the PS2.

Why?

GoldenEye is the greatest game of all time.

I can name several other games that are better than anything in the PS1's library: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Banjo-Kazooie, etc., etc.

I am on board.  Starfox 64, Shadows of the Empire, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mario Kart 64, THQ Wrestling Games, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Paper Mario, the list goes on and on and on as to why N64 was superior.
