I have played 1 and 2...And I find it only "ok" game.

Then my friends hype it to skys and heck Freeman won even greatest game hero award on Gamespot.. + all those 40 Game of the year awards Half Life 2 got..

At first I didnt see much from the game either... only on my second playtrough for both games I started to realise the great plot, atmospeher and million of small touches the game had artistically... Not the best game or best FPS sereis of all IMO, but its deffinatly on the top

I actually just beat HL2 for the first time... about an hour ago.

It's a good series, sure, but I was a bit underwhelmed by it.

Half-Life was the first modern FPS. It did so many things never done before.

Half-Life 2 set a lot of standards as well, though not as many. But no game ever did gravity the way Half-Life 2 did. And surprisingly few games since, though it is now customary to actually be able to move things to a degree.

Plus, a lot of people (me included) think they are absolutely awesome games.

Cause no two sets of 30 minutes of gameplay are the same. You are either running from zombies, driving a car, a boat, etc.

Half Life 1 was very groundbreaking when it came out.

It hasn't aged very well, and nothing about it except maybe its story will seem special today. But it's contributions to the FPS genre cannot be ignored. Many things that made it unique became standardized in other games.
