How profitable was it after selling 2m? It was an expensive game to make, but I guess alot of that hard work goes towards the engine in general which will be used in K3, and maybe some other games too? (hopefully)

I believe it costed 20-30 million dollars, so I think it's safe to assume that it was profitable.

Ummm..there are those from the opposing camps that will tell you it costed twice that figure you mentioned.

Either way the engine is now in place so K3 will be far more profitable, it will also be on a far bigger userbase.

The sales fluctuate, the week of 10th Oct K2 did 25,000+, before that it was on and off and mostly down than up the VGcharts.

The slim has given it a new lease of life.

I am confident it will have steady legs due to it's reputation as the best looking shooter (best looking game before U2) on a console.

I hope it get to 3million without bundling.

I think 60 million dollars is a little too high, but I'm guessing from 20 million to 40 million now. And yeah, KZ3 should be way more profitbale.

They did have a huge team working on it for a good long time. I woulda thought it's cost including advertising might have been 60 - 80m

Well according to google searches, the highest I've seen is 60 million, lowest being 20 million. So it might be around 40 million dollars.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Great game. But why the slow sales? Lack of public recogonition or something?

the fact the controls were too differenft for the casual FPS player, caused people to pass

How many people were working on the game? 130? GTA4 had 150 people working on it and a cost of 100million to make. I guess 40m sounds reasonable enough.

A. GTA4 was multiplatform. PC/360/PS3 vs Ps3.

B. GTA4 took 10,000 pictures of New York City... that needs to be multiple photographers hired and 10,000 dollars worth of film and paper can't be cheap.

C. GTA4 had cameras capturing rain effect.

D. GTA4 VA is a shitload more than KZ2. With higher paid actors.

E. I'd assume TT GTA team would be getting paid more than the average dev salary with their track record. And GG less with theirs.

F. While GTA4 dev team probablly worked start to finish on it with the whole team GG had a PSP game launch during the dev time and continued support for the game.

Hense it being roughly twice the price ^^

I hope it can hit 3Mill lifetime.

4 ≈ One

It's legs are not near what I expected. The multiplayer is amazing, but the singleplayer is somewhat underwhelming compared to Uncharted 2 and CoD4, which may have impacted the game's legs.

I hope with the third they can conjure up some of the awesome cinematic moments of U2 and CoD4, and preferably improve the story a good bit (make the characters actually likeable, incorporate the backstory more). They had the basics of a good singleplayer there, like the awesome graphics, great AI, great enemy character designs, and great basic level design, but it lacked the scripted "oh shit!" moments of other blockbuster action titles, and the story was just meh.

I think shooters need a great singleplayer to truly sell well. It's the singleplayer that creates a good first impression, and it's what keeps people coming back for more. It was CoD4's short but incredibly sweet singleplayer that got most people to buy in, and it was the multiplayer that kept a good number of those people around. You have to figure that practically half of CoD4 buyers on 360 (and I assume ps3) never played online.

It may get to 3 million if they rerelease it with all the DLC, but I doubt it. Which is sad, because the multiplayer owns.

I hope Killzone 3 has some levels on a less brown planet. As much as I like gritty war, nothing beats a flamer in a jungle :D

Also, seeing some nice neat and clean ISA cities being blown to detailed smithereens by a Helghan invading force would be sweet. Then I wouldn't mind a grey/brown planet as long as we see it get turned into that.

And as MakingMusic said, some of those "Holy Shit" moments with real characters and an existing plot.

I think KZ2 would be around 2.20m-2.30m by end of 2009 depending how it's legs hold but right now it's selling 20k each week sometimes even 30k if it continues to sell at this rate 2.30m seems very likely to me by end of year.

P.S. Killzone 2 is awsome!!!!! Multiplayer is like crack!!!

should be 4 mil. lifetime. I hope it got the legs of MGS4
